Hilton HHonors - No Fee AMEX card for DELTA can net 20K HH points after first charge

Hi all:
I have the AMEX HiltonHHonors card and it's been a pretty sweet deal so far. In addition I just received a Delta Skymiles AMEX gold card with no annual fee for the first year that nets 10K Skymiles with first purchase (any amount)that can be exchanged for 20K HH points. I received an invitational e-mail, but I believe you can go to Delta's website--it's a new no annaul fee promotion if you are a Skymiles member--and apply there for the card.
I received the Delta card a few days ago, already charged 5 dollars, will get 10K miles, transfer to 20K HH, and cancel the card.

I would suggest that you think about keeping the card a few months and make a few more charges to it - blatant abuse of these offers will make them less available in the future.

Well, I don't think what the poster has noted is "abuse" as many get a card and jettison it after a year if they have to pay a fee. Moreover, those diehard Delta people probably would be happy to see the miles converted to HHonors points instead of potential use a miles on a future award.

However, I assume that those of you who receive this card prior to 4/15 can take advantage of the Double Delta miles for tax payments.

Is the offer just applicable to US Federal taxes, or can it be used for state taxes, as well, if anyone knows?

I cannot find under "Delta.com = redemption opportunites" where one can redeem miles for Hhonors points. Does that redemption take place through Delta or Hhonors? I want to redeem Delta miles for Hhonors points.
Can someone please provide a link to the redemption offer?

The exchange comes under Hhonors under Reward Exchange, Exchange airline miles for HHonors points.

Here are Delta award codes for HHonors transfer:

Z991 - 5,000 SkyMiles --&gt; 10,000 HHonors points;

Z992 - 10,000 SkyMiles --&gt; 20,000 HHonors points.

Z994 - 30,000 SkyMiles --&gt; 60,000 HHonors points.

You need to request paper award certificates from Delta that you will have to mail to HHonors for credit.

kmt thanks for posting. I don't read the Delta board and the 10,000 miles will fill in nicely with the 15,000 orphan miles I have. I flew Delta a couple months ago and my Delta card was so old that they told me it was a collectors item.

Keeping a card a year then canceling is one thing, making a five dollar charge and canceling after two weeks is another.

However, I DID get the card solely to transfer the miles to Hilton, and don't think I will keep it if they insist on charging me a fee in one year.

It's amazing how my original post had "hidden" text that said "I will cancel the card in two weeks." I didn't even notice I had written it.
Abuse or not, I don't plan on keeping the card for very long due, in part, to my high debt and compulsion to rack-up more debt. Either way it is not clear to me how cancelling a card hurts anyone(from what I have seen here on the Hilton forum, some people will do far more questionable things to earn a few points). If others don't want to cancel until a designated time, more power to them. Just thought I would tell you about an opportunity.

Does anyone have a promotion code or website for the no-fee AMEX Delta Gold card?

milesfromheaven -- I don't know of a web site where you can sign up for this promo (first year fee-free and 10,000 bonus miles for the SkyMiles Gold card from AmEx), but here's the info from their flyer:

I'll admit right off the bat that I haven't done the math, but isn't 2HH points for each Skymile a bit of a rip? I would think that potentially, you could get a greater $$ return by using your Skymiles for a tciket. Comments, anyone?

Not necessarily. For example, 50,000 Skymiles would generate 100,000 HH points, enough for a 6-night stay in Hawaii (VIP-only award). Very good value, IMHO.

Also, the beauty of HHonors Reward Exchange is that you can use "orphan" miles from various programs (e.g., DL, CO, UA, etc.), plus, for those having a Mutual Fund HHonors Account (held jointly by spouses), both spouses can transfer their orphan miles into HHonors points.
