InterContinental Hotels Group Stay Forum - HI & Suites: Zona Rosa, Mexico City

This was for a 5 night stay from 8/31 - 9/5.

First time in Mexico City

Booked a F&F rate for a King Master Suite Smoking for $103 per night. When I checked in found out that even though the rate is called pre-paid, my card was never charged. Worked out well, they charged me in Pesos at the end of my stay and worked out to be $96 per night.

Hotel is a 6 story newer Hacienda type building on the edge of the Zona Rosa, a quiet little neighborhood about a 10 minute walk to the bars and shops. Easy walk to all public transportation and in fact if you like to walk or hike it's pretty easy to walk to the Zocalo, Chatupultec and La Condesa from here as well.

Check in - Smooth and quick. Staff speaks enough English to communicate well. They are professional if not friendly. I'm just a lowly Club Member, but they gave me 2 bottled waters daily, continental breakfast and late check out.

Mini HI Rant - Every HI I have ever been seems to have the same consistancy for the front desk: Greet only when greeted. After you have checked your guest in, never look at them again. Keep your eyes firmly fixed on the paperwork on your desk which is more important. Even if the guest is the only person in the small 3 foot lobby area. If you have no paperwork, keep your eyes glued to your computer screen or your desk. Perhaps this is a way of treating the customer like a Rock Star? (Mr Jagger does not like it when Hotel Employees look directly into his eyes, so make sure employees avert their eyes in his presence) Anyhow...

Room - Very large and comfortable. A living room in the front with a desk and 2 sofas, which should be replaced immediately, a vanity sink in the hall on the way to the huge bedroom. Bathroom must have been recently remodeled, big beautiful new shower. Old Tube TV in the bedroom. Even though I'd requested a smoking room, all rooms had a no smoking sign out front. When I asked the bellman, he opened the door to my mini balcony and just told me to keep this open and I will be fine.

Fitness Center - A joke.

Wifi - Free but no signal above the 2nd floor.

Business Center - Some PCs in a room off the lobby. They will charge for printing anything though

Food - The restaurant was actually very good and pretty cheap. Had breakfast here every morning and opted to pay for a full breakfast instead of the contintal breakfast. They were also very flexible in terms of choices and serving me a late breakfast every day.

Maid Service - Excellent.

Odd Notes - They have some very cutting edge art displayed all over the hotel as part of an ongoing series. It was not the type of typical Hotel Art seen in a Major Chain and I really appreciated the original Mexican arts and viewpoints.

When I needed a cab to the airport at the end of the stay, they had a guy in a suit ready for me...in a very old beat up van. Good thing I trusted the hotel by this time. The old beater did manage to get me there for $200 pesos.

Over all a very comfortable and quiet respite from the cacaphony of Mexico City. Would recommend this hotel

You can get the Sheraton for the same price. If you happen to be SPG PLT member, you are almost guaranteed one of the corner suites. You will also get lounge access.
