Hilton HHonors - When rates go down after making reservation

What policy has Hilton taken about changing the rate after the reservation is made?

I have seen people get a lower rate at check-in. I have changed a reservation to a lower rate when the rates have gone down, keeping the same reservation number.

Last night I was told that because the hotel (Monterey) has a three day cancellation policy and the reservation was for the next day, they could not change it. The reservation agent suggested talking with the hotel.

What success has anyone had at getting a lower rate at check-in?

Depends on the hotel. Sometimes I will either call the hotel directly, as well as via the 800 # and online, when making the res. and then call them right before I go out, that can also help with requesting an upgrade, a certain floor, etc.

What I am finding if you stay at the same hotel,they keep your preferences and they take care of you, more so if you are elite level. Hint, if you honestly like the service and employee, fill out a survey and make it positive. They will remember, trust me, especially if you mention a certain employee, and that is a payback to them for good service(rare these days, outside of SE Asia).

As in the case of a 3 day policy, talk to the manager. Hey, in all fairness, would like to get the better rate, they will most likely work with you. If they don't work with you, STAY SOMEPLACE ELSE, as they don't want your business, simple.
