All Nippon Airways Mileage Club - 20-80% more expensive starting in NRT

During 2011 I started to notice that the fares starting in NRT are way more expensive than starting in Europe or US.

I have tested a few city pairs. Bellow is only an example in October 2011.

FRA-NRT with LH or NH is approx 800 EUR
NRT-FRA with LH 1400 EUR or NH 1600 EUR

Depending on the month the difference is bigger or smaller. But always greater than maybe 20%.

How can this enormus difference be explained?
How do, travelers starting in JP, accept the price hike since 2010?

Welcome to Japan -- this is nothing new here. Airfares ex-JPN are always higher than other major airports worldwide. Some blame high landing fees, others blame the oligopolistic practices of the Japanese air industry (keeping out new entrants), while still others say it's due to the high demand among Japanese consumers.

How do we accept it? Some of us don't and purchase our tickets overseas. Others have their own methods.

oligopolistic practices is very possible.

However 80% difference is very very much.

But is the demand really that high? Someone had a look and could verify that almoast every flight ex JPN has booking classes sould out ? F1 J0 Y0 B0 ....

For the route NRT-FRA the difference has not been this high since 1999. Before that I didn't fly this route.

I'm not going to blabber out and say exact routings, but if you start overseas

XXX-NRT- (Europe or USA) - NRT-XXX for the price you pay in Japan for a C ticket u can get F(with change) overseas

FT is actually the right place to blabber it out. The airlines are very aware of how they price their routings. And they do so intentionally.

When it comes to blabber I don't know what it the right thing to do.

However, for the regular traveler there are many atractive fallbacks. For example buy miles at promotions.

Worse is it for the person who only travels ones per "a few years", like most recidents of Japan. They are in my opinion all royaly sc*****ed.
