Qantas Frequent Flyer - SIN-MEL on JQ (ticketed as a QF flight)

I'm sure this has been asked and answered on the forum previously, however several searches have failed to find anything conclusive.

A colleague of mine is flying LHR-MEL return, and has unwittingly booked LHR-SIN on QF connecting to SIN-MEL ticketed as the QF flight number but operated by JQ. I've not flown JQ long haul, and have no experience with these flights when ticketed as a QF sector, so I have two questions:

1. Will she earn QFF points and SCs?
2. Will she need to purchase food and beverage on the JQ flight?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If it is in economy, then no points will be earned ( unless in , iiirc, K or higher class )

Oh no........

Jetstar is the Ryanair of Australia.

Ok for short haul by long haul in my opinion would be nothing short of depressing.

If she has purchased a jetclass (there version for J) fare she will accrue points and have lounge access however, all other fares are rock bottom and get nothing....not even a cup of tea.

Unless your friend is on a non-flexiable ticket I would cancel - I'm absolutely sure she will get a better flight, on the same money earning points elsewhere.

If she can't, I'm really sorry however, on the bright side it's a safe airline and the pain will go away.....eventually.

If it is a commercial (paid for) flight then meals and non-alcoholic beverages should be available.

2. Will she need to purchase food and beverage on the JQ flight?

Presuming it's a paid ticket (not FF), then she does NOT need to purchase food, but she will need to purchase alcoholic drinks.

I would change to QF10 for the last leg if possible and not costly. Going from a fully catered seat on the A388 to a JQ A333 is too much of a downgrade after a 12 hour flight from Europe.

I really feel sorry for your friend. I'd cancel ASAP and try to rebook onto something better as others have mentioned.
Short haul, it's bearable, long haul in Y, no way.

Thanks for all the responses, they have been very helpful. If it was me I would have avoided booking the JQ operated codeshare in the first instance, for reasons of relative comfort, service and of course points and status.

It's good to know she'll be fed and watered, and to be honest I don't think she'll be too worried about the points. She's a price sensitive traveller, and before booking this was contemplating flying Air China LHR-PEK-MEL return, so in the end I think she'll probably be OK as she is.

Thanks again.
