Is there anyplace to find/borrow/"use" free wifi in the airport? I'd heard that you could find a decent-strength signal outside the Air France VIP lounge in terminal 2, near gate 24A. Anyone ever used it there? Or anywhere else in the whole airport?

Which terminal are you most interested in? I usually fly out of T4, and there is no wireless there. There is wifi in the Admiral's Club, but you need to be a member to gain access to the network; this may be changing soon, but the main terminal is still underneath and probably shielded from the insides of the club.

I've never noticed any free wifi in TBIT or T1 either. There is wifi in the US Airways club in T1.

The CO Presidents Club in terminal 6 has an open wifi signal that can be accessed from the adjacent gate (unless something has changed when I last did a year and a half ago or so)

@bimber. I was in the Air France lounge this Summer and the only way to get access was with a password they provided.

There is still access outside the Continental President's Club in Terminal 6 but that may be changed in the near future with the merger with Unitied.

Since normally you can't get to a gate area without a boarding pass, I assume you're just asking for general future reference. There are some cases where you can access an airline club without a boarding pass (e.g., Alaska Airlines is one I read about), but I believe you'd have to buy a pass. As I'm sure you know, anytime you're in an airport you may see both fee-for-service Internet and free access, though if the latter is not a known site, it can carry great risks.

In T4 there used to be access at Gate 40, which is just about underneath the Admiral's Club. That was a couple of years ago, but not sure about now.

i recall once spending a day stuck at LAX, and receiving a good signal at the north end of TBIT, upstairs, past the daily grill and by the windows (not past security).
