Thailand - Adieu Chao phraya river

Hello one & all.
After over two decades of staying in hotels besides the river, namely those of The Shangri La - Oriental, and more recently The Peninsular, we have decided to make a change and stay a little central of the city.
Having narrowed it down to the SGS / Four Seasons / Conrad. After a very close call, we finally chose the Conrad.
Now as a rule we stay in Bangkok for 2-3 weeks, then continue with a beachside stay. However this year ( January ) we shall only be staying 5 nights in Bangkok, due to taking in another Country.
OK to the question regarding my post. We always stay in a suite, so we checked the Conrad just last week and decided on booking the terrace suite.
However just today the same suite has risen in price by 2,000 + Baht for the duration of stay.
Now I realise this is an insignificant amount but, is this the normal policy of the hotel to hike prices ?
My concern being, that if we decide to book at an even later date can we expect an even higher hike ?
We have never come across this before ! So perhaps someone might be able to shed a little light on it for me.
Kind regards Helen.

Hi, Helen, and let me be the first to welcome you to FlyerTalk (FT). It's not clear to me from your post whether you have already reserved the suite. If you have, I'm surprised that they are now raising the rate on a booking which you made previously. In that case, I would speak with management at the hotel. You might start with the reservations/booking manager. If that gets you nowhere, I'd try the GM. E-mail is fine for this; no need to telephone.
If you haven't yet booked the room, there's not much you can do about the price increase. You could always contact them and ask them to give you the old price; but it's not something to which you are entitled, IMO. Prices do fluctuate. Additionally, there may have been a certain number of suites available at the lower price which are now all reserved; so you're stuck with the higher price. Many hotels make available a limited number of rooms at a lower price.

Thank you for the warm welcome and informative reply Dr.HFH.
Just to clarify my original post, we have yet to book the room at the Conrad.
Just to add confusion. Checking the prices again today for the same suite ( executive terrace ) it has returned to its original lower price !
Although its still several weeks until we arrive in Bangkok ( January ) we cannot commit ourselfs to a particular date until late November.
So hopefully the price will remain the same, and indeed the availability still be open.
Do you know how many terraced suites the Conrad has ?
Kind regards Helen.
Well we have stayed at both the Conrad and SGS after years of staying on the river. The position of the SGS is much better being right at Asok station. There is a shuttle from the Conrad to the train but if you want to go at other times the walk is not pleasant with extremely rough sidewalks.
If you suite is not available at Conrad then look at the SGS.Booking a suite at SGS gets you free buffet breakfast, internet access and a 2 hour complimentary drinks in the evening.I note that with your executive terrace at Conrad it is extra for buffet brekkie and only free internet if an hhonors elite.
Also at the SGS you can always book on their promotion code-for 5 nights it is z5r.better value is staying 6 nights when you get 2 free nights-that makes the SGS themed suites only slightly dearer than your suite at the Conrad.
The ZXR promotion rates are generally loaded about 3 months out.

Yes, but there is no way you can compare the Conrad suites to the SGS. Conrad blows them away. However, I prefer the deluxe suite to the terrace one.

Thank you for that drron. The location of the SGS was indeed a major factor in 'almost' booking the hotel. However the deciding factor at the moment is the price difference. Terrace suite 5 nights Conrad = 66,000. Grande suite at the SGS Same 5 nights = 86,000. But as our options are still open, I shall continue to look for the promotions you mention.
Regarding breakfast and the internet. We use an Iphone which sort of defunks any use of internet whilst in Thailand. Yet despite that I would have to query your information regarding those two issues....
The Conrad Bangkok’s Executive Terrace Suites offer 71 square metres (764 square feet) of enhanced contemporary luxury, with a separate living room, bedroom and spacious balcony with sun deck and four-seater table with panoramic views over the Bangkok skyline. All Executive Suites are equipped with CD Player, iPod docking station and 40" Sony LCD TV in the sitting room, and a 32" Sony LCD TV in the bedroom, as well as a free-standing bathtub next to windows with louvered shutters overlooking Bangkok. Executive hotel guests also enjoy complimentary 50MB in-suite Broadband and Wireless Internet and security key card access to the Executive and Cigar Lounge with full daily breakfast, afternoon tea and coffee, evening cocktails, private check-in and check-out, and meeting room usage with high-speed internet access workstations.
Kind regards Helen.
I would not be looking at the Grande suite-though they are much cheaper than the Conrad terrace suites.I was looking at the Theme suites at the SGS that with the promo rates are only slightly more than the Terrace suites at the Conrad. Now I know nothing of the Conrad suites but just looking I noted a price for a suite and a separate price if a buffet breakfast thats all.

Now we will be staying in the Raja suite in the beginning of november and I will do a review with pics.
If you want to use points then on your figures it has to be the Conrad.

I do like the sound of those themed suites drron. Especially the garden part. Look forward to reading your review.
Here's hoping those promotions are available to be booked sometime in November !
Kind regards Helen.
