Hello All! Andrea is my name and this is my first post on FlyerTalk!
I have a question: next December I'm flying LHR-JBB with SAA and I heard about OK aircraft and nicer aircraft on that route.
I can choose between the flight 235 and 237 to go down and between the flight #234 and 236 to go back to LHR.
Any suggestion on which one is more likely to have good IFE and so forth?
Thanks in advance!

Looks like SAA 234 and 235 will put you on a variant of the A340, which has slightly more legroom than their A330 configuration. ^
Both options will have audio and video on demand, but it looks like the A340 may have a larger PTV. Good luck! ;)

Welcome to Flyertalk, Andrea!
On theLHR/JNB vv route, SAA uses several different A/C. If you enter your travel date(s) and flight #'s in Seat Expert (http://seatexpert.com/), it will tell you which one is used for that day and flight.
Try to avoid the A340-200 (also known as 342), as it has significantly less legroom in Y as well as really antiquated IFE. :td:
The 346 and 343 are better, more legroom and AVOD. The 332 is the newest A/C in the SAA fleet and has similar legroom and AVOD to the 346 and 343.

I flew on Tuesday night from Toulouse to JNB on SAA A330-200, I flew in J but sat a few minutes in Y to try it out and it was great.
IFE is exceptionally good. Last night I flew Qantas to SYD and the SAA IFE on A330 beats Qantas hands down.

Thanks a lot to you all. Well I'm flyng on Dec. 27th and back on Jan. 20th. There are 2 flights per day from London so I still have to decide which one to book. The flight is about 7/800£...fair?
Moreover, any tip when it comes to miles on Eurobonus? Is there any reasonable way to upgrade the seat? Thanks again guys!

At the moment (and I must stress that this can always change!), on 27 DEC, SA235 is a 343 and SA237 is a 332. Choose 237, I would guess. An added advantage is that it has 2-4-2 seating, s no middle seat in the 'side row'.
On 20 JAN, it is a 343 for SA234 and a 332 for SA236. (I just miss you, I am on SA234 on 16 JAN - but in J).
SAA does not participate in the *A upgrade programme, so no miles u/g with Eurobonus, only with (SAA) Voyager miles I am afraid. And even those seats are hellishly difficult to get :(.
