France - Strasbourg excursion from Paris in December?

We will be spending six nights in Paris in December. Just changed our return flight to the following day in order to get a non-stop on miles so we are considering adding something to the mix. To be clear, this will be our 5th trip to Paris tho they have all been in the summer.

Considering taking an early train to Strasbourg and arriving by 11 AM and leaving our luggage at the hotel (Hilton - decent???). Would probably stay until 3-4 PM the following day, take the train to Paris and go to the airport, check-in at the Sheraton at CDG and leave the next morning.

So I keep reading about the boat trip in Strasbourg but this is December and no idea if it even runs. What do you all think about the plan or should we skip it in December? If so, any other ideas for two days/one night in another city?

Appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

spent a week or two in the area a couple of times in feb. is cold particularly in upper elevations(there are real mountains just west of there). had snow. went to alsatian vineyards, cheese shops, and fine dining. had a car. went as far south as mulhouse. there was snow in the central part of strausberg. if you plan to eat at Auberge de l'Ill, book it now, and confirm a week or two before you arrive.

The thing to do in December is the Christmas market. Also the one in Colmar.

The Sheraton CDG is a great idea. There are often transport problems in December so it's best to spend the night at the airport before your flight.

From 27 November until 31 December the boat runs from 09H30 till 17H00 every half hour. www.batorama.fr

Be aware that you will need to book your Strasbourg accommodation NOW for this December!! Also that you'll have to carry the minimum with you during the day to get through the massive crowds that visit the Christmas markets ... but it's worth doing!
