Virgin America Elevate - Shortish transit vx815 to va2 at lax

Hi, On my flight to Chicago from N.Z. this Wednesday I have a 4.75 hour transit at LAX which I will have to fill somehow, I understand there is a lounge you can pay to use in the International terminal as some of the posts suggest that terminal 3 isn't very pleasant for waiting around in. But my question is about on the way home. I come from Chicago on VX815 into terminal 3 at 20:35 and fly out of terminal 3 on Virgin Australia VA2 at 22:50 which is one hour 45 minutes later.
This is a single ticket booked thru the phone with the customer centre in Australia. This is my first time on Virgin, previously I have always flown Qantas. 1. Is this enough time for a transit since I apparently don't have to change terminals? I assume I can check my bag all the way to Wellington.
2. Do they hold flights if one flight is late (thunderstorms or some other issue)? I suppose if it was a really long delay they wouldn't.
3. I assume I could upgrade the flight from chicago to LAX from my booking of MCS, but I can't upgrade coming from LAX to Chicago, as I am starting my trip in Wellington NZ almost 22 hours previous and will be checking in at about 24 hours previous.
Thanks. I am really looking forward to my first Vigin trip which will be in premium economy and MCS.

It's a small terminal, so I don't think connecting will be a problem.

They likely will not hold the flight at all. The two airlines don't really talk to each other.

To the OP: Your connecting flight from VX to VA at LAX T3 is only a few steps away from gate to gate in the same terminal. Beware that you will be in transit during the peak hour at T3, with a lot of VX and AS traffic in the terminal area so waiting there for a VA flight will be a complete mess. Ironically, VX and VA has side by side check-in at the terminal but I can see where the two carriers don't talk to each other.

Hi, Just returned yesterday. Rain in Chicago caused the Sunday flights to LAX to be delayed 2 hours. We arrived about 5 minutes too late to make the connection to the V Australia flight.
As we left the plane, the FA's told us we would make the flight, but I guess no one told V Australia about it as they didn't seem aware when we raced off the plane to the gate for the sydney flight which was near by.

V America put myself (premium economy/mcs) and a first class passenger up at the Hacienda Hotel - Lax Airport on Sepulveda Blvd. Rooms were run down and none too clean. No meals were provided for our 23 hour 50 minute delay in travel. Qantas people were in the line ahead of us, so I guess most of the airlines use this place.
I spent the day on a bus tour of LA for something to do.

Still overall I enjoyed the flying experience on Virgin and liked getting the priority thru the security lines that I assume all MCS passengers get.
