do we need to download the toolbar for the first time to count as hit? Is it like new customers only?

I have already downloaded the toolbar and got miles for searches but nothing in my account yet.
So I'm hoping to delete it and then re install it to get the miles. I'm also hoping to do it for FF IE9 and chrome.

When I first downloaded toolbar in March I was getting miles posting in weekly increments but from April they have been monthly and always on a Thursday between the 4th and 9th of the following month. I am expecting August miles to post this week on Thursday 9th.

I find the toolbar less flakey on IE than other browsers.

As it is linked to particular accounts I doubt that loading on different browsers will give any increase in miles. My experience is that if you switch between one browser and the next it picks up the count from where the other left off.

We have four accounts all using the same computer and once 100 miles have been earned on one account we log it off and log on the next account. No need to have different computers or browsers.

I am hoping existing users will get a hit when the September toobar miles post early October but will just have to wait and see.

My guess is that the toolbar/search hit will be awarded when they detect that you have earned miles for a search, not when you earn miles for both a download and a search. Regardless of what any understands or guesses, we'll know once the hits start posting. If you really need to know sooner, you can try asking US Airways.

In the faq (http://www.usairways.com/EN-US/FAQS/GRANDSLAMFAQS.HTML#14) it reads:

Can I use the Dividend Miles toolbar to earn hits?

Yes! Once you’ve downloaded the toolbar to your computer, just complete 3 mileage earning searches and you’ll earn a hit. But you can only do it once for it to count as a hit.

One can read this, that downloading will not get a hit but the searches.

However I agree that the wording in the GS Rules (http://www.usairways.com/en-US/dividendmiles/grandslamrules.html) is a bit different as it is download toolbar and three searches (= one mile).

It's got to be from having miles post to your account from doing three searches. Miles posting to your account from transactions is how every other hit works, there's no way this can be different. I just can't see a way in which US would track when/how you downloaded the toolbar in addition to earning miles from it. The point is that they want you to use it...it's gotta come from the miles.

The toolbar generally displays how many valid (i.e. mileage earning) searches you've performed and how many miles you've earned. The search results screen displays a message when you perform a non-mileage earning search.

I don't know the answer (yet). However, fact is that the toolbar always shows how many (valid) searches one has and how many miles one gets. Fact is that the miles from my searches never arrived in my US Airways accounts in the past. Neither did the 500 miles from the past promo arrive.

Another interesting thing: When I perform searches from Switzerland, Germany and Austria is shows "invalid search". When I do searches from Poland it shows/seems to show as valid searches.

Or you can always do a quick google search for "us airways toolbar" and it would return as the first result.

Does making a purchase (Amazon) through the US Toolbar search results count as a US Mall hit? The toolbar was reflecting 1 mine/$ all the way through checkout.

Hopefully I knocked out the toolbar and the US mall hit with one move. :)

This was very helpful. I thought that I had gotten this hit, but when I read this post I realized that I had not seen any display counting my hits or miles. I went back this morning and realized that, in order to get hits, you must "login" to the toolbar (with your DM accuont number) in order to get qualified hits. I'm sure 99% of folks know that, but in case there are others like me out there I thought I post this.

Is it too early to worry that the toolbar searches (for those of us who had previously downloaded the app) won't count as a hit? I received my dividend miles statement this afternoon and it is showing a "buy miles" transaction from yesterday and a points.com transfer from this afternoon. (I had recorded 16 hits by that time.) The statement came very shortly after that points.com transfer. I know some partner hits will take longer than others, but I was thinkin' the toolbar hits would be "in house" so to speak and hit early. I have "earned a mile" many times over since the Slam started.

Toolbar miles may seem in-house, but the toolbar's actually outsourced to another company that takes some time to post. No problem though. I've clocked miles on the toolbar for months now and they all post eventually.

I think that the toolbar points post in batches now. Monthly?

The toolbar is not built in-house, so I would guess that the points are not "in house" until the third-party company feeds the list over to US.

I believe a toolbar hit will be determined by having completed three searches and earning one mile regardless of when, how, or where the toolbar was downloaded. My recollection is that toolbar miles have been posting as a cumulative monthly total a few days after month end with an activity date of the first day in the month in which a search (or perhaps mile-earning search) was performed. I'm going to wait until a few days after 9/14 before I do any searches in September. If I don't get a hit this way for September, there's still plenty of time to redownload the toolbar and do three searches in October/November.

Weird. For both my account and my wife's, and whether using Firefox or IE, the toolbar count stops incrementing once at 19 searches / 6 miles. Waited over 24 hours and it still won't increment. Might try with my mom's account. Haven't bothered with hers yet since we're not doing the Grand Slam for her but this glitch I'm experiencing has me curious.

I can't believe they want you to delete and re-download the toolbar. The sole purpose of having it is to search and that, IMO, is what the hit is based upon. My August searches posted on Sept 9 and my guess is Sept's searches will post on oct 9, so I'll look for the hit on oct 14 when the sweep is run.

According to the FAQ:
Once you’ve downloaded the toolbar to your computer, just complete 3 mileage earning searches and you’ll earn a hit. But you can only do it once for it to count as a hit.

I read that to mean that it's earning a mile from searches that constitutes the hit.

Remember that it's the listed activity date that matters. My 2 miles for August searches posted on September 8, but with an activity date of August 22, so I think it would be prudent to do 3 mileage-earning searches [on or] after September 14, and if the miles post with a pre-Sep. 14 activity date anyway, to do 3 more searches in October.

I transfered 3 points from my Best Buy Rewards account and the transaction went through in less than a day. I transfered at night and they were in my account the next day. They even put a check mark in a bonus column. Not sure if that check mark signifies as a "hit" or not though.

I am typing my search terms directly into the little box on the toolbar, and it is set to Yahoo search. The "not earning" just refers to the DM Shopping websites. If you're at a participating site (like Amazon.com) it will show as "earning".

The searches are separate. Right next to the search button it will say something like "4 searches >> 1 miles". As long as it doesn't say "0 miles", and you earned the first mile on or after 9/14, you're fine.

The toolbar miles tend to post with an activity date of the first day in the month you earned a mile so if you started before 9/14 you may need to earn a mile in October.

I uploaded the toolbar and while getting it up to 5 miles I found Choice Hotels and low and behold it said on the bar Congrads 2 miles per $1 (your purchase at this merchant will reward you)

So will this count as my DM Shopping Mall Hit? it should for 1 of 6 Hotel stays,

I will check-in but since its an Econo Lodge (250 miles) dont know if I want to stay there, theres another Hotel down the block I need for Elite level and want Hotel pts so I just might checkin and stay at the other place if its as bad as I think it maybe

the 3rd hit is getting enough searches on the toolbar to earn miles

I have had the toolbar installed a long time. Except for the bonus miles that were offered to do the download (long time ago) I have not seen any of the search miles credited to my account. I see the miles accumulate on my toolbar after every 3 searches but I have not received these miles in my DM account, ever. Anybody experience this? Maybe my browser or something else is messed up? I use MSIE 9 now. I also use the Hawaiian Air toolbar and they have been posting my bonus miles every time.

Same here about the reset, but my searches today are not being counted and my search and point counts remain at zero after doing several searches today. I tried logging out (to then login again) thinking that even though it showed me as "logged in" that maybe my login had timed out. I got a message indicating that I had logged out, but the toolbar still showed me as logged in (and the dropdown doesn't give me a login option). I'd never used the toolbar before so I'm not sure if these performance issues are normal or not.

Think that's what he meant. I was talking bout simply hiding it. And he was saying I should uninstall it

Yes, you can disable or uninstall. Hiding will remove it from view but it's still there. I made the mistake once of hiding the AA toolbar from view and forgot all about it. Couldn't figure out what happened to all my referrals, doh!

I think somebody posted earlier that this is because the toolbar credit uses the earliest activity/mile-earning date for the month in question. So earn away in October -- for which all dates are valid hits -- and your mile(s)/hit should post a month from now.

It appears that if you have used the toolbar BEFORE the begining of Grand Slam, then your miles will post with an activity date before 14/9 and even though you will get the miles, FT members report that this would NOT count as a hit!!

CHECK the ACTIVITY DATE of your Toolbar Miles

If the activity date is PRIOR to the 14th of September, make sure that you do some searches in OCTOBER too, to get the hit!!

Just wondering here...I just installed the toolbar in a browser I rarely use and did a bunch of searches last week and saw the counter say 3 or 4 searches, so that should count as a hit for me, whenever they get around to posting. I then logged out and logged back in with Mrs. dwcatty's account and did three more searches. That should get her a hit, yes? I did the same for the newly created granddaughter's account as well, so she gets a hit, too, right?

My real question, I suppose, is the way I read the T&C is you get the hit for installing the tool bar and doing three searches, but I only installed it once. Anyone else doing multiple Slams get hits in multiple accounts doing what I just did?

I was getting excited when it the tool bar told me that I was going to get 12 miles per $1 for every IHG hotel stay. It now says 3 miles per $1 - but I cannot find it on the dividend miles shopping, so I do not think that it is correct.

The toolbar also keeps giving me Foley & Corinna when I am on google. At 16 miles per $1, I was looking at buying and reselling on ebay! I rebooted my system and now it is telling me 4 miles per $1. Their website shows them as non-earning.

I think that it is very buggy. I did get the hit for the searches, but I do not trust it on the shopping portion.

It's a lousy toolbar developed by Freecause. As soon as I got the hit, I uninstalled it (which hopefully won't cause any crediting problems). With FT member help, I diagnosed a Firefox loss of functionality problem to Freecause's failure to update their security certificate. I had to go in and reset the date, but later got similar problems until the uninstall.

Against my better judgment, I downloaded the toolbar a few days ago. Many people have indicated that the toolbar shows how many qualifying searches you've done. I am not seeing anything on mine. The "Not Earning" button changes to green on many of my searches and shows how many miles/$ I can earn. Aren't these eligible searches? I don't actually have to buy anything do I? So where can I see if I have done 3 qualifying searches?

TIA

Toolbar points post only once a month. (Per post #3, between the 4th & 9th for the prior month.) I don't know that we've determined an exact cutoff date, but with the end of October approaching, if you haven't already done your toolbar hit, now would be a Very Good Time to get that done so you'll have a verified hit before the end of the GS period. That way, if your mile(s) don't post, you'll know about the problem with plenty of time to make up the difference by doing the toolbar hit again or by doing an alternative.

Margarita girl - yes - it is confusing, as I do not think that they have the login button in the proper place.

The login button is about 2/3 of the way over from the US Airways button. The layout is:

US Airways Button
Yahoo Search box
Yellow Search Button
Red Login Button (replaced by # of searches >> # of miles after logged in)
Shop Online
Special Offers
Earning/Not Earning Green Button
Red Book Button
Red Daily Deal Button

Hope this helps!

It's usually within a few days of the beginning of the month.

The activity date is the date of the first mile earned in the month. If your activity is before 9/14 (or your GS registration date) you need to earn another before the promotion end date.

My first activity date would be sometime in early October as that's when I started playing GS. I was automatically registered into GS, but was not aware of it as I didn't receive any email. So missed some valuable time. Anyway, after installing the toolbar, I've performed a lot of searches. If I remember correctly, my miles count for October was 22 so that means at least 66 valid searches.

10/6/2011 11/03/11 DIVIDEND MILES TOOLBAR SEARCH BONUS

Looking at the posting stats on the Grand Slam Scorecard (http://www.gsscorecard.com/)we've had the early adopters posting on Thursday 6th October and the Johnny Come Latelys appearing on Thursday 3rd November....apart from one guy who saw theirs yesterday (time zone problem?)

The activity dates are all from the first search, so if you need this hit, you can still start it now. (or re-start it for those of us who forgot to register their wives (I only have one) on the promotion, but were swinging for hits anyway :o (I don't understand baseball:confused:, cricket anyone?))

Sorry about the parentheses overload. I've got my coding head on.

Nov 3, 11, 2:21 pm
As gnarly says its not too late to get this hit.

Toolbar miles have been posting like clockwork on the first Thursday of the month as long as the first Thursday is a couple of days into the month. When the first Thursday is the first or second day of the month the miles have been posting on the second Thursday.

This means that the next posting of toolbar miles will probably be Thursday December 8 and as long as the activity date is on or before November 14 all will be well.

I already got my toolbar hit, but started playing my husband's account after Nov 1. I wonder if the searches from Nov will still post? Ugh!

Miles earned prior to the vendor switch should still be valid and post on the same schedule. I've gotten a few postings from the old DM mall today.

My latest (and evidently last) Amazon-derived miles posted this morning. Farewell, my lovely. :(

Yes, Amazon as a vendor will be missed. Chances for free miles gone. :(

I think advertising that toolbar use got a hit and then just wiping out any toolbar searches for November would attract some unwelcome attention for US Air so don't think they'd go that far.

When did people last see miles post for the toolbar searches? I did my searching on the 7th of November (pre-email) and just want to make sure they'll post and get me a hit. Haven't had anything show up thus far.

Toolbar hits always post in the first week of the month, so you're looking at a wait of 10-14 days.

I hope so, as I have one account that is still reliant on a late toolbar hit in order to get any bonus points at all.

I guarantee it, or my name isn't Beltway.

I'd like to see that passport page! Your parents must have had a love/hate relationship with that road to name their child, beltway.

I prefer the rescinded cookie offer. :p

Ok, we're into December. My November toolbar hit/miles posted on the 3rd, which was a Thursday. GSScorecard shows most October and November hits posting on Thursdays.
Today is a Thursday....but is it too soon?

I suspect that we'll see the hit on the 8th, but it could be today.

Yes, I hope so, as this is the last hit that I am waiting for on one of my accounts. (It's already counted on two others).

I can't remember seeing this in the thread, but how does the toolbar communicate with US Airways in order to allocate the miles? e.g. if I have uninstalled the toolbar after an initial burst of activity in November, will US already know about the miles?

Yes. I installed, ran searches, and uninstalled in the space of about 10 minutes. Got the hit the next month.

No miles yet from November searches, but they have usually posted for me around the 6th of each month, so I'll know soon. tls

It's late on the 7th and still nothing. My mom's account is in need of this posting and, because of the discontinuation of the searchbar tool, this might take some time to see in the account.

Toolbar posted today for 3 out of 4 of my family's accounts. Not sure how to get the one account credited. Any ideas? Thanks.

It happened today. USDM managed it very well.
