I have a friend that owns several Choice Hotel properties. We have traveled together before and he has used his owners card, and after being able to provide proof he was indeed the owner, he was given discounts and room upgrades. These have occurred throughout the IHG group of hotels, even at ITC properties.

My question is, is this a normal process?
Are there things he should expect as a benefit of being an owner?
Would he be able to recommend someone to become a Royal Ambassador?
Any experiences would be appreciated.

I assume that would follow under the heading "professional courtesy".
Would he be able to recommend someone to become a Royal Ambassador?Does Choice have a 'Royal Ambassador' status? First I've heard of it.

Professional courtesy, if anything.

I'm not sure what to say unless this is about an owner of several Choice Hotel properties who also owns some InterContinental Hotels Group hotel(s).

Intercontinental Hotels Group has a Royal Ambassador status, but if you want to know if a property owner of an ICHG property can get someone InterContinental Hotels Royal Ambassador status, that is a question best asked of the person who owns the properties or perhaps on the ICHG forum here on FT. Ownership of Choice Hotels properties wouldn't ordinarily matter to InterContinental Hotels Group, although if ICHG is grooming someone to jump ship to them or dealing with a hotel property owner that has some ICHG flag, a lot of things are possible.

Thanks for the replys. I asked here because he owns Comfort Inn, but they are in the IHG system. He does get discounts and perks across the board, even at top Intercontinental hotels, as an owner. He has been disinterested in travel and travel awards/points in our previous discussions and does not pursue this avenue. I assume you all are correct, but please let me know if anyone hears or knows anything different.

Are you sure you've got the brand (Comfort Inn) right? AFAIK, Comfort Inn has always been a Choice Hotels brand, definitely not an Intercontinental brand.

I'm also guessing that the principal has some CP and IHG properties, maybe more, in his system. Some owners/franchisees have multiple properties under several brands. And I'm not just talking about people -- I remember seeing a tire company's name on plaques behind the front desks of more than one brand of hotel, for example.

You are right, I am wrong. He owns other properties including Holiday Inns. I just assumed it was through the comfort inn that he received those benefits. I have no idea why. Thanks for the help.
