Italy - Hotel Recommendations for Lake Como Area
Hi all- we'll be visiting Lake Como end of September and would like some recommendations for great hotels in the area. We've heard that we should stay in Bellagio over looking the lake and wanted more input..thanks in advance..

Gorgeous, wonderful place. The region gets pretty packed in the summer. Bellagio is gorgeous, but way too crowded and noisy in the summer. There are a lot of towns around the lake, and frequent inexpensive ferries from one town to the other. Right next to Bellagio, a five minute boat ride away, is Varenna. Magically beautiful, more authentic, without the trinket and tourist shops. Hotel du Lac on Varenna is very special. On the other hand, the crowds may be thinned out enough in late September for Bellagio to be tolerable. You can expect it to be chilly. Sorry, I stayed in a wonderful hotel in Bellagio, but just cannot recall the name. Get an upper floor room with a direct lake view, not a side view. It's so pretty it's worth the extra money.

Thanks for dropping by and for your thoughts, most appreciated.
Two suggestions: in Bellagio try the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni and in Lenno, across the lake, try Albergo Lenno. Both are long time favorites of ours.
Thank you so much deek..I will look into those =)

If your budget allows, take a third floor room with a balcony. One of the most relaxing stays we have ever had - siting on the balcony overlooking the lake and reading and enjoying the view.

Check out the Hotel Florence in Bellagio.
The finest place I have ever stayed at is the Villa d'Este.
