Unfortunately Hurricane Irene rather disrupted our plans for the weekend, and we found ourselves at a La Quinta instead of where we expected to be. Because of road closures, our 1 night stay turned into a 2 night stay, and we needed to move rooms. Didn't bother me much, we were upgraded to a 2 room suite. :D

We have Cat #3 with us, on her first road trip - which is why we're at a La Quinta instead of any other type of hotel.

Anyhow, after we had to change rooms, I went back to the first room to get an extra blanket I had gotten last night for my son. The housekeeper was the process of cleaning the room, so I asked if I could just grab the blanket. She apologized, but said ALL the linens had already gone downstairs for washing because that's their policy for pet rooms. I looked in the room, and she really did mean all - the beds were down to bare mattresses.

Now Cat #3 is a very clean housecat - shampoo'ed once a month, and flea-free, so perhaps after her being in the room, such cleaning was less necesary than it might otherwise have been, but I was glad to know that we weren't sleeping in someone else's pet hair and possible pests.

How many hotel chains do you think do such thorough post-pet cleaning? I know at least one Marriott that claims to as a way to justify its exorbitant pet fee, but doesn't actually wash every layer of linen.

Oh, and at LQ we of course pay no pet fee!

I agree that fewer hotels do such a thorough cleaning than do. Really good to hear about LQ. I am pretty allergic to cats and somewhat allergic to dogs that shed. I will continue to frequent LQ with or without my dog. They've always been good to me.

I think I mentioned in another thread where you also posted that I lived at one for 2 weeks during construction on my home and by day 3, they knew Charlie by name and had a biscuit for him. The very first day, Charlie did a Houdini when I was trying to get the suitcase into the room and the manager caught him down the hall! He then had to let me back into the room that I locked chasing after Charlie!

I'm tempted to suggest the idea to LQ corporate.

That is a great idea. In unfamiliar surroundings, dogs can get nervous and flighty.

Also, I'm a fierce follower of pet rules whether it be city ordinances or hotels. Other not so responsible pet owners make it much more difficult for the rest of us. Such a pet ID tag may help make sure that pet owners have to be responsible. Maybe then, more hotels would accept pets and charge less to do so. @:-)
