Other Middle East and Africa Frequent Flyer Programs - Does anyone flew 777-300 Egyptair recently?

Hi all,

Couldn't find a thread for Egypt air, so I'll post it here.
Thinking of flying to China again this fall, was UNimpressed with AirChina, so I thought of trying Egyptair in C. On the pictures and promo video it looks good. But.... How are the things for real? Is it safe there lately? Service? Food? Friendliness, etc.

Any suggestions? Thanx.
Sincerely,

V

What has Egypt Air got to do with LH?
What am I missing?
This should be in the Other Middle East and Africa forum.

Wrong forum but anyway if you were unimpressed with Air China you will be shocked about MS! :D

I guess you are posting here because MS is an LH partner in STAR. I fly Egyptair rather a lot, and I'm very happy with business-class in the new B777 and with the new terminal at Cairo. OK, both have been around for a year or so - but both are soooo much better than what went before.

Food tends to be straightforward, no fuss. There's no alcohol served on board, and none in the lounges at CAI - although it is available in the airport's bar/cafe. So if drinks form an important part of your travel/dining experience, you should look elsewhere.

I'm currently in the Cairo lounge waiting for our flight back to LHR. We've done LHR-CAI-KUL and return on the 777-300 and I highly recommend it in business class.

Seat is very comfortable, and with a bit more room than the likes of the LH seat for example, as well as feeling like a flat seat, rather than a sloping offering. Food was plentiful, with even full hot meals on the short BKK-KUL-BKK sectors. Food was of a good quality too. Tasty, without being too fussy.

I had read about service being poor, but the crews on all the sectors so far have been good and attentive. They don't do as many sweeps of the cabin with water for example, but if you need anything they will sort it happily on request. You will definitely get better service on other airlines if you like to be fussed over though.

The alcohol issue wasn't a problem for us as we can take it or leave it. The lounges in Cairo as already mentioned are pretty reasonable. It was well
stocked for breakfast at 5am when we arrived today for example.

Overall it was the seat that made it a pleasure flying MS, especially as our expectations weren't too high. My wife had a really good sleep in both directions as the seat is comfortable and roomy. Much as this final comment will be mocked, I'm going to share it anyway - we would both choose MS ahead of quite a few *A airlines (SK, OS, LH etc) for the comfort of the seats alone, coupled with satisfactory service and food. I can understand the reputation that MS has for their older plane products, but this is definitely worth trying.

Can anyone share what are seats in Y like?

Booked on LHR-CAI, so not too long flight...

Did they change the aircraft to china (i suppose PEK?) to a 777 recently? I used to fly in a 332 last year.
