Flew from CUN to LAX on Saturday 8/27 on Virgin America - attempted online checkin from our hotel on Friday night within the 24-hour window. Only one of us on the itinerary was allowed to check in and print boarding passes - the other passenger name was grayed-out so we were unable to select it to check in or print.
Would you be able to tell me why online checkin would work for one passenger on an itinerary and not the other? It worked for both of us on the outbound flight on Saturday 8/20. I am trying to figure out whether I was selected for SSSS screening because I did not check in with the other passenger on my itinerary (because I was unable to!) - - or if I was unable to check in online BECAUSE Virgin America had selected me for SSSS.
I am also trying to figure out if I might have been flagged because my middle name was missing the last letter so it was different from my passport (the reservation was correctly transmitted to VX through a third party and the VX agent input the middle name incorrectly) - although all went well on the outbound.
This was the first SSSS for me - would obviously like to avoid it in the future. It was not done at the security checkpoint, but at the gate. I never even noticed it on my boarding pass until I was on the plane - the gate agent scanned it before boarding and immediately sent me over to the little tables where the agents were waiting. I was the first one pulled aside - they had already finished preboarding, first class and group A. I thought the agents were randomly selecting people out of the line but it turns out that it was planned all along -just trying to figure out how soon they knew it would be me!
Thought this might be something others flying out of CUN might want to know, anyway.
