For people who (like me) are restricted to buy economy.

If you are a CFP, buying a P-class premium economy ticket allows you to travel in Magnifica for free (provided there's an I-class seat available).

You spend 12500 miles for the upgrade, you earn (let's use MXP-JFK as an example) 4009x2 miles (for the P-fare), + 4009 (elite bonus) = 12027.

It's a 1600-something ticket, as opposed to 2400.

Not too bad!

BA has LAS / LAX at 1800€ in J ex Italy PLUS 20000 BONUS MILES!!!

http://www.britishairways.com/travel/bonus-miles-accelerator/public/it_it?source=home&openxzoneid=375&openxcampaign=EUR-home&openxbanner=8473&openxtype=click

that Basically means you can buy J and fly in F with the miles you get for flight / bonus miles to USA WEST coast...

Unfortunately I continue to sat that classica + and J on AZ are just not competitive

Fly F via LHR and you won't regret it

Which part of "I cannot buy J even if it were cheaper than Y" did I fail to stress? :(

I'm a civil servant.
