Singapore - Lost luggage at Changi
I'm flying PDX-NRT-SIN on Delta in a few weeks. Because my flight gets in at 12.55am, I'm thinking about staying at the Transit hotel for the night before heading into the city the next day.
Per previous posts about the transit hotel, it looks like I can pick up my luggage at the lost and found AFTER I checkout of the transit hotel. I'm nervous about a plan that intentionally sends my luggage to the lost and found. Has anyone had problems with this?
Also, has anyone had problems clearing immigration if they wait several hours between landing and going through immigration?

Never a problem. There is usually quite a bit of bags there in front of the counter.
Since I fly DL to SIN I am too frugal(cheap) to pay for a hotel for 2-8am. I always PREBOOK T1 ambassador hotel for 6 hour. Sleep and then head into town. I had friends who did not prebook and end up sleeping on the loungers.
Check in at 2am, get up at about 7:30, wash up, check out at 8am. Grab breakfast at the terminal.
Head down to entry immigration about 9:15, you should have your bags past customs at the taxi stand at 9:30 which is the end of the morning taxi surcharge periodor SMRT station at the end of the morning rush hour.
Never a problem with missing bag or query by immigration officer.
I have booked a transit hotel at SIN for Dec this year. I wrote an e-mail explaining the situation that SIN is our final destination and due to the late arrival we'd like to stay in the transit hotel until the next morning.
This is the e-mail I got from the transit hotel:
"Since you will be going into the city after you check out of the hotel please see below:
On arrival you MUST NOT collect your luggage.
If you Clear Immigration and collect your luggage you will not be permitted to re-enter Departure Transit Lounge/Mall (Restricted Area) where you just step off the plane.
The Transit Hotels on Level 3 are located in the Departure Transit Lounge/Mall.
Have a hand-carried or overnight bag for your short stay in the Transit Hotel.
The next morning after you check-out of the hotel, collected your luggage at the Lost & Found Department after clearing Immigration on Level 1.
This department stored all luggage not collected after all flights arrival. Clear Customs and you will be in Arrival Hall."
I'm not totally comfortable with this (leave our bags for a whole night) but this is kind of a cheap and easy way to spend the first night.

Relax-lah, this is Singapore!
Would someone just take a random bag through custom knowing the law and punishment of the land?

Yeah, relac relac! I've done the Transit Hotel stayover several times and collected my baggage in the morning from Lost and Found.
The bags come onto the belt almost immediately after landing and they are monitored. After about 30 minutes, the bags that are left are collected and moved over to the L&F office and inventoried. Unlike other airports, Changi does watch the baggage claim areas.
I know SG is very safe but things do happen. When you are talking about a plane with 300+ people surrounding a luggage belt, you don't know whether a pax is taking is own bag or not. Once a woman sieged my suitcase at LGW (she got my suitcase out of the belt and sitting with it) and I had to really tell her that it was mine. Fortunately she looked annoyed and let it go!
That's why I like to lock my bags because you never know what people will do.
Here in Sweden a lot of people leave their car windows open during summer doesn't mean you can do it and nothing will happen. Probably nothing will happen but it only takes once.
