View Full Version : New Gate at Midway?

Hadn't flown to Chicago in a few months and noticed on this last trip that Frontier has added a gate at Midway. They always used to have A2, but now have A1 as well. Considering they never have more than one plane at Midway at a time, do you think this may foreshadow that a new route is coming?

Oddly enough, my afternoon arrival came into A1, while my evening departure left from A2. So, clearly, they are using both gates for some reason.

Lastly, the website seems to be down late tonight. I've been trying to get on for the past 15 minutes to book a flight and can't get any page to load.

Hmmm, MDW-MCO? MDW-CUN? I know I'm going to get flak for this, but MDW-MKE? Obviously there wouldn't be a lot of local traffic, but it would allow them to cater to folks in Chicago that might want MDW-MKE-LGA or MDW-MKE-BOS.

Does a 90-mile stage length on F9 have precedent? If not, my guess is no MDW-MKE.

MDW-OMA or MDW-MCI would make some sense, since both are F9 focus cities. However it would be tough to compete with 14 flights per day out of ORD from AA/UA plus another 10 from WN, with many of those flights sitting around $70 OW AI. Never mind the fact that MKE isn't too far away (but that doesn't' stop MDW-DEN). OMA is a similar situation, albeit with less flights.

Who knows though...maybe 2x daily E90 service would pick up enough O/D traffic to make either of the two routes viable.

Otherwise, CUN/MCO/TPA could very well be on the cards. Of course, then F9 is competing with WN's routes to both Florida locations. Maybe they can make it work though...particularly CUN, which isn't served by anyone at MDW (though USA3000, UA and sometimes AA offer it out of ORD).

They do serve MSN-MKE and GRB-MKE.

They could be taking over the route from USA3000 and could be serving charters from MDW as well.

With FL disappearing, maybe F9 can make a SMALL move into MDW and become the new #2 there? It'd be tough competing with WN, but maybe they can make a few p2p routes work.
