Germany - Parking close to Courtyard Berlin City Center

Hi,

We'll be driving to Berlin and stay at Courtyard in Berlin Mitte. The hotel has parking that costs 19 EUR a day which we think it's too much. The hotel is located in Axel Springer Str. in Berlin Mitte.

Anyone knows if there is any free parking space there? I saw a PennyMarkt close to it and can we park there?

Thanks in advance.

Street parking may come up in the evenings but you may have to circle around several times to find it, or expect to walk quite far.

I cannot recall a Penny Markt in the neighbourhood but suspect that if there is one, there is no parking lot per se. The Lidl nearby for instance has no parking lot.

I am not sure wether there is "Anwohnerparken" or not (parking just for residents of that area). If so street parking is not an option. Supermarkets often close their parking lot at night. You might check this before leaving your car there.

I cannot recall any of the supermarkets having any sort of lot in the area at all, although as noted I don't recall a Penny Markt. As a pedestrian one doesn't always take note of the parking signage but there is a road just behind the Courtyard between the hotel and Axel Springer buildings which may have some parking. There is also a side street with a Chinese restaurant which may have some. To be frank, I don't hold out much hope for easily finding a spot and in those cases I usually find that the parking charge is actually a value considering time spent and chances of a free spot being available.

There are a lot of side streets south of the hotel (opposite direction form Lepziger Strasse). The Wall used to cut right through that area where the hotel sits, and there are still a good number of vacant lots and buildings. It's an area that doesn't have much day traffic; and at night it is completely dead. If street parking is allowable, I don't think you will have to fight that hard to find a spot. If the MotelOne has opened up (which is about 50 meters away form the CY on Leipziger Strasse) they might have a parking garage that will charge less than the 19 Euros at the CY.

Thanks for the info. Just came back from CY and we managed to park on the street during the night. We just had to move the car back into the hotel's garage for a couple of hours in the morning.

There is a big parking lot on the south side which costs 2 EUR for 3 hours and 10 EUR per day - they close at 7pm and we saw the gate to the lot was wide open after that. The attendant was a grumpy one so we decided to put the car at the hotel garage instead.

I think Motel One charges something similar for parking compared to CY and I think you can get a park and breakfast package with them for EUR 30 per night. We didn't do that because we were on a point stay.
