I have a flight today (booked yesterday) which I still haven't received an e-ticket for (yet it went through on my credit card). I am currently outside Italy and the Alitalia website says to contact it's international number (+39 06 65649) for the country I'm in. When you call, the number has been disconnected! Bravo Alitalia!!

Is the transaction showing on your credit card's on-line statement? If so, your e-ticket number will probably be showing there (this is normally the case for Amex cards - not sure about MasterCard, VISA etc.).

Thank you AlicorporateUK and paffendorf for your messages!
Unfortunately the transaction won't appear on my on-line statement for another day or so, however the bank has confirmed only that Alitalia has request the same money as the ticket.
It's quite funny, well, not really haha, that I can't ring the NEW Alitalia number because it is a paid number ONLY from in Italy. Internationally, you can't reach that number. From here they have a different number to call, which now says to call the Italian number (which you can't). I wrote to Alitalia also but I'll never hear back in time. Let's hope they have the booking when I present my passport at check-in! :P

Alitalia really should have checked that arrangements were made for international calls when the new number was created, and delayed the disactivation of the old number until this was certain. The way it was done is rushed and not good enough, as we can see.
However, it is likely they will recognise your booking when at check-in.

?
This happened to me for one of the flights I booked online.
For some reason the confirmation email never arrived.
I called my local country Alitalia office (you will find them in the contact section) and they confirmed the booking, resent the confirmation to me and gave me the res number.

Also the booking search tool using name and flight number only is now working:
http://www.alitalia.com/EN_EN/booking/apvsearch.aspx (note it will work for AZ-operated flights only when using flight number, otherwise please use e-ticket number)
And, when completing your booking you will be directed to the ticket receipt with booking code, which you should always keep and if possible print out the ticket, without relying on the e-mail which could go wrong both ways (either by entering the wrong e-mail while booking due to a typo or by your e-mail malfunctioning or by a technical error from Alitalia).
Finally when a MilleMiglia member you can view all your bookings directly from here without needing the details, as long as you entered your MilleMiglia code while booking the ticket:
http://www.alitalia.com/IT_IT/booking/ApvListaPrenotazioni.aspx
As a side note, when not able to phone or the web tools don't work, you can post a message on Alitalia's Facebook wall, and there's a team there who will help you out.
