Hi, I purchased tickets from Iberia but flew on AA metal last month from JFK to MXP; when I tried to claim miles from AA; they said its under investigation and I haven't heard back from them yet. Would this work? I think I put in my AA number while booking on Iberia or at the airport during check-in (Don't remember exactly)

Give it some time, it takes longer to process since from what I understand you flew on the IB4252 code (recently introduced after the AA BA IB joint venture).
I am one of many people that can get really impatient when my precious miles don't bank after some time so I completely understand!
There is no reason why you shouldn't receive them.

As long as you purchased an eligible fare and you did not claim IB Plus miles, there should be no problem ultimately earning AAdvantage miles - you may have to persist, of course. Did you put your AAdvantage number in the PNR (record)? That makes it easier, but not foolproof.
