I'm rescheduling my flight from ATL to FLL Wed because of Hurricane Irene. Do you think I will have any issues getting into FLL Wed afternoon because of the storm?

Jenbel Aug 22, 11, 6:01 am I'll move this over to the Florida destination forum, where the members there will be better placed to advise you. Jenbel Co-moderator, Communitybuzz! LizzyDragon84 Aug 22, 11, 8:14 am Current weather models show that FL will get the first rainbands Thurs. afternoon with a possible landfall early Fri. morning. So a Wed. flight probably won't be affected. However, Irene is still a bit too far away to get precise models of her path and strength. She's passing over Puerto Rico and other islands which can change her strength and direction. I'd keep an eye on weather reports and NOAA updates. coachrowsey Aug 22, 11, 8:15 am I'm rescheduling my flight from ATL to FLL Wed because of Hurricane Irene. I just moved my Wednesday evening flight to FLL back to Sunday. I figured that I might as well make a business stop in DCA on Friday and just wait out any debris cleanup on Saturday. IMO that it is just as well to stay out of South Florida when there is such a strong probability of a tropical weather disturbance. The airlines will agree since they do not want their equipment on the ground down there when the bad weather hits and it is not unlikely that Wednesday will see some flight cancellations. CatJo Aug 22, 11, 10:42 am Have a flight on Friday morning (26th) BDL-ATL-FLL; looks like Irene could be hitting Georgia Fri morning, so ATL is going to be a mess as well. Watching the projected path and right now things don't look good; hoping it changes in the next two days :( SRQ Guy Aug 22, 11, 11:18 am FLL- probably nothing but a rainy and windy day Thursday. SC may get hammered Saturday. CatJo Aug 22, 11, 11:24 am FLL- probably nothing but a rainy and windy day Thursday. SC may get hammered Saturday. Man, I sure hope you're right! Should make for a relatively uneventful flight to FLL Friday morning then (though don't know if connecting through ATL will be a good idea). monitor Aug 22, 11, 11:49 am Yep. In the last few hours, the track of the storm moved to the north of Hispaniola so SRQ Guy's guess is possibly correct. However, I have been through too many of these things and realize that any prediction made 72 hours out is subject to many changes and even the back end of a big one is a serious problem. So I still am playing the safe card and arranging to stay out of South Florida until the weekend. Luckily, for us it is at most only a minor inconvenience. Reminds me that I still need to call down to have someone take in the tables, chairs, and other miscellany from the balconies.
