Los Angeles - Hotel for Rose Parade
Going to see the Rose Parade and looking for an affordable hotel. Options in nearest radii around Pasadena seem to be:
- Hilton Doubletree Claremont
- Marriott Courtyard Baldwin Park
- Marriott Courtyard Burbank Airport
- Holiday Inn at Universal
- A few downtown LA non name brand hotels Miyako & Kyoto Grand (but I think after parking these may no longer be affordable)
- a few by the Ontario airport
We will have a car, so prefer the least travel time (distance + traffic) between the hotel and the Rose Parade, as we will probably make two trips - the night before to look at the floats, and then the morning of the parade. Hotel needs to be clean (no yuk factor) and safe.
Hoping my fellow ft'ers will have some advice regarding the above list (which seem to be the only ones available).
Thanks in advance.

I have never gone directly to the Rose Parade (prefer to watch from comfort of home) but from what I've heard, parking can be rather difficult on the day of the parade. I would pick a hotel that offered an easy light rail option perhaps the Universal City Holiday Inn where you could take the red line to the gold line to the parade route. I would not stay in Baldwin Park, Claremont is a much nicer area.

Are you going just to attend or are you going to sit in the grandstands.
Regardless, look at these sites if you have not already since you have a car ready.

Bought grandstand tickets, and bought the parking pass with them, so that is taken care of. Will not be staying for the game. Does that change the recommendation?
So far, sounds like either Hilton Doubletree Claremont or Holiday Inn Universal are the recommended hotels?

If what I read about parking prices was accurate $30-50-more, I'd ditch the parking pass, try to cancel it, do whatever and save the money. I still think the car will be more hassle than it's worth by driving.

I lived in Pasadena for 13 years; my townhome was just off Colorado Blvd.
Hilton Doubletree Claremont
Claremont to Pasadena would be about a 30 minute drive. The area is nice; Claremont is a upper-middle class residential community and a college town.
Marriott Courtyard Baldwin Park
I've stayed here once. The hotel is fine, but the area is somewhat blue collar and not particularly interesting. It would be about a20 minute drive.
Marriott Courtyard Burbank Airport
This property is in a large, relatively new commercial shopping area. It would be about a 10 minute drive to Pasadena. I'd consider this as my first choice.
Holiday Inn at Universal
I've been here a few times for events and I used to go to church right around the corner. I was never that impressed with the property. It would be a 20 minute drive to Pasadena.

Downtown is relatively close to Pasadena, but depending on the area, can be a little void of activities. The Miyako and Grand are in Little Tokyo. The 110 freeway between Downtown and Pasadena gets pretty crowded at New Year's and with all the street closures from the parade and game can be a little tricky to navigate.

I have stayed at the Sheraton in downtown Pasadena
It is very nice and within a block or so of the parade.
See what their prices are

The hotels in Pasadena are normally very expensive at the end of the year; they know they have captive audiences for both the parade and the bowl game.

I suggest staying at Downtown LA and taking the train to Pasadena. Little Tokyo is GREAT for Rose Parade. Driving and parking at Pasadena on new years day is a pain in the butt.
The Miyako and Grand are both within walking distance to the Little Tokyo Gold line station. It's takes about 25 minutes to reach Old Town Pasadena on the Gold line.

Thanks! Marriott Courtyard Burbank booked. Always helps to have both local input. I also really appreciate the drive time estimates. Very helpful.
