Was driving home from Ohio to Chicago and passed the Gary Chicago Airport (KGYY). Saw two Lufthansa planes (A320s i think, they were far and i was driving at a fast clip) sitting on the ground at GYY and found it very odd. Any particular reason they might be there?

B737-500s......there for the scrap!
Does anybody know if there is the chance to get on one of the decommissioning flights? Would love the adventure!

Highly unlikely, no FAs, so no pax. Same goes for delivery flights.

Delivery flights sometimes carry pax, albeit company-only.
AF had pax onboard the first 77W delivery flight from PAI, all AF employees.

Some of them already have the NEK cabin so I doubt it ...

As a Gary-born boy, I'm intrigued as to why GYY airport for storing these planes? Of course, there's the always lovely weather, less air pollution than in the steel mill boom years..... or is it the quick access on I-90 Toll Road to casinos?
(Is GYY still part of the ORD-MDW-GYY bi-state airport commission which was created by the Chicago mayor as a political stop-sign to a plan to build a new mega-airport in the cornfileds about 50 miles south of the Loop to replace ORD?)

Nope GYY is (in this case) an airport where 737s are taken apart for parts ;)

Well, earlier this year there were NZ 77W (PAE-LAX) & CX 77W (PAE-HKG) delivery flights also carrying (non-employee) pax. So being way OT: why not a LH 748i PAE-XXX delivery flight with some non-employee pax? Wouldn't that be a nice LH Do?
