I am looking for suggestions for good restaurants on the North Shore of Tahoe or in Truckee. So far our favorite is Moody's in Truckee. We were not impressed with the Lone Eagle Grill at the Hyatt or the Big Water Grill also in Incline.

Check out River Ranch at the entrance to the Alpine Meadows road. It's been awhile, but they used to have very good food and their location in the Truckee River was quite nice.

Looks great from the website. We'll be right near there next week and will check it out. Thanks.

Haven't been in Tahoe for ages (spent 4 years there mid '90s) but Wolfdale's in Tahoe City and Soule Domaine in Crystal Bay were the ones I used to go to on the north shore for fine dining. There used to be a Cafe 333 in Incline Village but I hear it's closed. Used to be another on in ~ Tahoe Vista but I don't remember the name.

Here's a 2nd for Wolfdales. Still best of the bunch. Dockside 700 is the new hot spot. I had one excellent meal there. Maybe you're thinking of Wild Goose in Tahoe Vista. Captain Jon's used to be real good. Drove by a couple weeks ago and the parking lot was empty - not a good sign. I haven't eaten there in 5 yrs. Plumpjack, Christy Hill, W Shore Cafe, River Ranch, & Soule Domaine are all pretty good and worth a visit. wj

Thanks for all the suggestions. We did eat at Wolfdale's quite a few years ago - should try it again. As for Captain Jon's, after several good meals a number of years ago, we went back last year and were disappointed, so we probably will try some of the others mentioned.

We drove in to the River Ranch Inn yesterday afternoon and the place was a total zoo. I think the restaurant is probably quite good but the place is the center for river rafting on the Truckee and it was a real mob scene. Maybe we need to go back later, even after dark, and have a late dinner. Ended up at Moody's again and had another excellent meal -appetizers and salads are the best part of the menu, from our perspective.

RR doesn't serve any good food 'till dinner. Full of hammered rafters 'till late afternoon. wj

Is RR the one between Truckee and Tahoe City on the (right) side of the road?

While it's South Lake Tahoe, if you wanted to drive a bit, Evans Cafe (http://www.evanstahoe.com/) had one of the best meals we've ever had in a delightful ambiance.

Agree absolutely - we've had several outstanding meals there. When we stay on the south shore, it's our #1 choice.^^
