I have read the threads on the two hotels but was wondering what the thoughts were on a direct comparison of the two. I am looking at a one night stay and for my required date Miramar is about $110 more expensive than Newport. Is the location worth that much more? As I understand Newport has the more updated facilities, but I've stayed at the Empress and Pallisades and realize historical properties can wear their history. Is either much quicker to get to from LAX, I would hate to spend most of my 24 hrs there in traffic!

Any insights are much appreciated! Thx

Just recently stayed at both hotels.. I would say that Miramar is the more historical of the 2 and has built a steady clientel over the years.. It is also near a beach, whereas the Newport Beach is in a business disctrict, and a drive to shopping.

To LAX, Miramar is about 15 minutes.. and Newport is about 60 miles from LAX.. so an hour average driving time..

If its just one night.. I think you choose Miramar simply because its closer to LAX and the hotel overlooks and nears a beach..

Definitely go for the Miramar. The Newport beach is in the middle of nowhere, far from LAX and the typical tourist sites.

Miramar is in a great location, lots you can walk to or a fairly quick drive to West Hollywood.

Agreed. VERY different properties. Miramar would be my pick as there is a lot that is offered within walking distance. Whereas the Newport has nothing unless you count the Carl's Jr.

I'm actually staying at both next month (to bump up stays). The night that I'm staying in Newport Beach, the rate difference between Newport and Miramar is $500+. Couldn't justify the difference.

Yes.. two different properties and two completely different rate echelons..

While the best rate that I've encountered per night in my search was $429 at Miramar.. the Newport Beach is around $229 or less for a Fairmont Category room..

So obviously, if you want to save money.. go Newport..

All things equal ignoring the money aspect.. I would go Miramar for the history and location..

Well it definitely seems the Miramar has the overwhelming vote! Thanks for the input ... now to decide if I really need that extra stay.
