Hi all,

Just booked my first rental with Thrifty - they were far and away the cheapest (along with Dollar, of course) for a 2 day rental out of CLT. We've booked a convertible - they say 'Mustang or similar', any thoughts on what we'll get?

I booked using the Thrifty.co.uk website and have pre-paid, is there anything I need to be aware that they might try to sell me? Luckily I won't be stepping off a transatlantic flight so I won't be as half asleep as I was last time I coughed up for extra insurance, but I always feel slightly intimidated in these places!

It cost £69 for the two days with the 'platinum package' (it was £60 for the normal rental), so about $100/$115.

CLT is a decent enough station. Friendly staff and close to the terminal (still need to ride a bus, but it's frequent enough and not a terribly long ride).

Most of what they have to offer as far as protection is already included in your all-inclusive prepaid deal, so the most they could try to sell you is the basic accidental death/dismemberment and personal belongings protection (PAI/PEC), emergency sickness protection (ESP), roadside assistance, and other options like a GPS. Those are not high-enough dollar values for them to really benefit by pushing on you, so I wouldn't expect a hard sell. CLT never gave me the hard sell when I was there, although it's been about three years since my last rental there.

Thanks for the reassurance - I find the sales tactics differ a lot between different places and companies (Hertz at PHL didn't try to sell me anything, Avis at LAS tried to get me to upgrade the car, insurance and buy extra roadside assistance, for example).

I've got a lot better at saying no, but it'd good to have a bit of an idea of what I'm saying no to!
