SO I have to return my rental tomorrow and I could use a little guidance.

I rented a Standard vehicle and after asking 4 different times that I felt they were giving me a smaller car than I rented...they issued me a chevy colbalt and would not budge that this was a standard car. I've never been given such a small car when renting a standard.

The lady was persistent that this car was a standard,IMO there is no way this is equivalent to a Ford Fusion or similar. More like a compact to intermediate ... Should I try to get a difference in the car class refunded when i return the vehicle or call enterprise when I return home? Also I was supposed to be upgraded for free to a full size (had a coupon) and the lady said they were sold out. When I went on the website after we left from my smartphone, I found it odd that I could have rented a full size right then online... But I wont push that issue.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Do not rent from them again. Simple. They are just horrible to deal with in so many ways. Also, once you take the car they do not make any adjustments whatsoever. Please - take my advice and do NOT rent from Enterprise. Fax in your invoices/receipts from other companies that you do rent from in the future showing them how much they lost your business.

A little more short termed practical advice than what ldsant said is to be vocal when you return. Enterprise trains their employees to ask you "were you completely satisfied with this rental?" (though often you'll just get asked "how was everything?"). At this point, tell them you were upset. If you don't feel you're getting anywhere, use the magic four letters...ESQI. Tell them if you get a followup survey call (known as ESQI call to employees) you're going to give a negative review and mention the employee number on the contract. This should get them hopping and they'll give you either a discount or future free upgrade coupon.

Welcome to the "that's not a standard, this is a standard" club; Enterprise has some sad definitions of "Standard".

My standard was a Nissan versa and on return I complained to no response. Wrote a strong letter to corporate and received a "double upgrade" coupon; the same as Entertainment book already provides. Gave them one more shot with an intermediate upgraded to a full-size (using said coupon) and was offered the same versa; I've never rented from that location again.

It's worth noting this may be location specific; usually a standard rental does net the Fusion or Sonata.
