Looks like I will end up with about 250,000 points expiring at the end of 2011. I had planned on redeeming those for nights, but Starwoods 3-1 promo took care of that.

Its early, of course, but any suggestions?

Cheers!

Convert the points to gift cards... Not the most cost effective, but a lot better than loosing them altogether.

250,000 points is a lot, especially now with most of the world on sale this Fall for 8,000 points/night. If you could find availability, that's about a month for free someplace.

I realize your post count isn't high enough, but you could make some fair deals on Coupon Connection.

Remember, you can always transfer to miles in late December. That's still probably a better value than using them for gift cards, though obviously not as good a value as hotels in Italy at 8k/night.

2 weeks AI with Barcelo' !!! PVR is their best reviewed resort on tripadvisor.....or look at some of the ascend awards at 40k+ a night...i think the cloister on sea island Ga. is still listed as one of them.

Sell them to me!

Haha! I can't get enough of CP Points.

Unfortunately it seems points can be transferred. Maybe I'll just buy them at 20K + 10% bonus for $220

Thanks to all. I'll sit tight for a bit and see if there are any redemption or transfer bonuses as there were earlier in the year. Though a month in Italy is interesting....

While you're way short of the requirements for Coupon Connection, I think it's OK with the T&C's to offer a deal in this forum, like you book for them this year, they book for you in the future. After all, this is where you're most likely to find people interested in CP points/redemptions.

And, no, it's not me - I have what I need for this year. :)

I thought all trades had to be done through CC.

That said, the OP, while short on posts, has the required time aspect, so if the OP contributed another 150 posts, they could then post potential trades in CC.

Don't want to violate the T&C or the spirit of such. So make that 149 posts.....

Thanks.

I'd convert them to WN points - it would value each Choice point at half a cent, or ~$1250 in WN Rapid Reward credits for the lot of them. Much better than the ~$750 or so that you will get.

Whatever you do, as others said, wait until later this year to do so - there's a chance they may have a conversion or gift card promo similar to the UA double miles promo back in May (5,000 points became 2,000 miles).

Been a long time since I looked at CP-WN points transfers, but if lowfareair's math is correct (~$1250 airfare), and if my math is also correct (~$1250 airfare <==> ~ 75,000 RR points), you should look at converting those points to RR immediately upon posting of your 50K points signup bonus for a new RR Visa. For a $99 fee, minus $833 of points toward airfare, you would earn a Companion Pass, allowing you to designate a companion who could fly with you for free (except 9/11 fees) for at least one full year.

(The CP requires 110K points; 50K for RR Visa signup plus 75K for more than meets the requirement.)

That said, the values for redemption in Europe can be enormous, so if that works for you...go for it!

Another suggestion if you are an American AAdvantage member, transfer your points there BEFORE 12/1 and they will count towards Million Mile Lifetime status, in addition be reward miles for travel. Starting 12/1 only BIS miles will count for MM status, unless you have a Exec CC that will count for another year.

But the best use is still for hotel stays, so if you have a fantasy trip in mind, take it!

To follow up on ftnoob's and lowfareair's points.:

6000 Choice > 1800 WN. So your 250K Choice > ~ 74K WN. If you can finagle another 36K WN this calendar year you have $1837 in WN credit for WGA fares, plus a pass that allows you to bring along someone for free every time you fly WN, until 12/31/12.

If you have someone to serve as Companion, and can conveniently fly WN, this is a huge bargain, conceivably worth thousands.

Thanks, Toomanybooks, that is a great suggestion. I don't normally fly WN, but I think I have 20,000 or so WN sitting around from a Hyatt promotion, so that seems very doable.

Thanks!

And while the companion pass will expire, the new RR 2.0 points don't (though you may need occasional "activity" to keep them alive). So unlike the old RR awards, there's no big problem with transferring a big number of points to WN even if it may be years before you can use them all up there.

You do need occasional "activity" to keep points alive - flight or Partner earning activity every 24 months.

But that's just buying a small item from a WN affiliate. You just have to set the timer to do it.

Check to see which of those points are "Companion Pass Qualifying."

Often it's only the first 600 per night.

Very important.
