Brazil - Transportation to Rio Cruise Port

There is an informative thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brazil/776608-airport-transportation-rio-de-janeiro.html on transportation options from GIG to various hotels, including the Sheraton Rio in Leblon. Several posts have indicated that taxis are reasonably priced and generally honest.

Does anyone have first-hand knowledge of approximate taxi costs from this Sheraton to the cruise port? Are credit cards accepted? Tip guidelines?

Thanks in advance for any info. I am concerned about the rapidly increasing rate of inflation driving everything up...or so it seems.

The Sheraton Leblon to the cruise port will be roughly R$35-40 for a Yellow taxi IME. For tips generally one rounds up to the next R$. Discussions of inflation are quite exaggerated. the inflation rate now is about 5.5%. High but not astounding. For tourists the problem has been the steep decline in the value of the US$ and the Euro. US$1.00=about R$1.61 as In write this. Credit cards are rarely accepted in taxis and where they are drivers do not like them because of the steep discount rates they are charged. if you want to use a credit card volunteer an additional 10% and they'll be satisfied.

if you take the special taxis you can get prepaid rates, using cards too, but the prices will be about 35% more than the yellow taxis.

That site was updated as of the most recent rate changes. It is quite accurate except during rush hours, because it does notinclude waiting time nor extra baggage charges.

Both of those charges are shown in the text, but it is all in Portuguese.
