Iberia Airlines Iberia Plus - Email address for baggage regs query?

Can anyone suggest such, preferably for a UK office? Can't see anything obvious on the website

Background is that I just had a slightly unsatisfactory conversation with an Iberia customer services rep where I was calling up to ask about packing an avalanche safety airbag.

She said definitely no but on other carriers, these are OK except if you are going to the USA or Canada (I am going to Chile) and the IATA regs allow them. I have subsequently discovered that even Iberia's website even refers to one type of them here (https://www.iberia.com/OneToOne/v3/product.do?cntCat=Productos/EQUIAP&cntId=cuadro_mercan_peligrosas&isPopup=true). Mine is slightly different to the type referred to in the link in that it does not contain an explosive charge

Anyways... I'd like to email someone who can confirm that I am OK to avoid hassles at the airport.

Thanks in advance!

I'd not bother much with an e-mail, but do check the contacts in this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/iberia-airlines-iberia-plus/595475-how-get-reply-iberia-customer-service.html), or try the local number from Serviberia, found here (http://www.iberia.com/OneToOne/v3/serviberiaContacts.do?prgOid=8896&tabId=3&menuId=07080000000000&language=en&country=GB&market=GB).

That reveals 0 870 609 0500 (spanish & english) 00:00 - 24:00 Lt. Monday to Sunday for the U.K.

As to your avalanche bag, Iberia says:

Avalanche rescue backpack, one (1) per passenger, equipped with a flare device containing less than 200 milligrams net of Division 1.4 S explosives and less than 250 milligrams of Division 2.2 compressed gas. The backpack should be packaged so that it cannot be activated by accident. The airbags in the backpack should have pressure release valves.

Allowed as checked luggage YES
Allowed as carry-on luggage YES
Allowed on passenger (on person) NO

<link (https://www.iberia.com/OneToOne/v3/product.do?cntCat=Productos/EQUIAP&cntId=cuadro_mercan_peligrosas&isPopup=true)> (probably you have seen this already)

If yours contains no explosive charge and meets the standards otherwise, it should be fine - I would print out Iberia's page, and perhaps put the bag into a duffel or other bag to "disguise" it and minimise hassles - including theft.

Frankly, I do not think it will be easy to find someone knowledgeable in general customer service communications or offices. Good luck, and may the volcanoes sleep...

Thanks - I think you're probably right.

These bags have been round for a little while but have only got popular in the last couple of years. Airlines which service the mainstream skiing destinations are reasonably clued up about them (although the check-in person usually has to speak to their boss) but not surprising that Iberia staff aren't quite so familiar with them.

The fuss is a bit silly when you consider that the mechanism is basically the same as the automatic inflation mechanism in all the life jackets on the plane!

You are quire right - OTOH, the airlines often do not allow one to bring their own Oxygen, though... even in time-tested and approved methods. ¡Buen viaje! :)
