Just returned from two nights in Vegas, one at the Hilton, one at Paris.
I had just gotten the gold upgrade from the recent promotion. The advice here to use the VIP line at the Hilton was a good one--it saved me a chunk of time at check in. The room there was fine, with a decent view of the strip. No mention was made of a free breakfast, but for $39.00, my feelings weren't hurt. I did get free entrance to the spa, a nice benefit, as well as a free paper.
Paris offered concierge floor, but didn't have any with two beds, so I stayed on the regular floor. Nice room, view of the parking garage. They said they were "getting out of the Hilton program, but had registered my number". No spa access, no breakfast. The American Express deal got me two tickets to the Eiffel Tower, something I wasn't expecting.
Since my stay, both have registered points in my hhonors account, and both counted towards my 50,000 gold bonus http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.
I've booked the Hilton again for late August for a business trip. Good price, easy access if you're not going to the strip. I'll push for breakfast this time, though...

What American Express deal are you taking about?

Apparently that's what I got. When I was finished checking in, they gave me four printed coupons with my name on them. Two Eiffel Tower, two others that I forget now (sorry!), but I think were $20.00 free gaming or something. The Eiffel tour runs $6.00 for guests, $9.00 for others. Go after 3:00 PM--that's when the Bellagio fountains start.
Also, for getting their players card, I got a coupon for $20.00 off their fancy-schmancy steakhouse, with no expiration. Only one coupon good per table. I'm back in town for business in a few weeks, solo, so I'll sidle up to their table for the $19.00 dollar chicken dinner (steaks go on up to $50.00+).
Incidently--the best meal I had on this trip was the Paris breakfast buffet. High quality, well prepared, fresh, good service. A smoked salmon orgy! (A little carried away, I know...)

LAX 1K -- AmEx Package - $79/night Sunday through Thursday. You'll also receive spa discounts and 2 tickets for the Eiffel Tower Experience. 1 night stay is OK (I've used it myself in June).

Intersting about the Paris stay. I am going to Vegas this weekend and called Hilton for reservations. I asked about rates at Paris and they said that hotel is not part of Hilton.

tommya -- That's right, Paris Las Vegas is not a Hilton anymore, it's owned by Park Place Entertainment. Nevertheless, it gives HHonors points and miles as any Hilton would (and Bally's and Flamingo are the same way).

Eugene, thanks I will try to call the hotel directly. It is strange, last week the Hilton agent said we don't book for the Flamingo and still gave me their phone number. This morning the agent just said they are no longer a Hilton hotel.

Well, the first agent just went beyond the duty to be of help to you. Flamingo is no longer a Hilton for far more than a week... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I just stayed at the LV Hilton for $49 last Wed and I got a rather large room and a wonderful view from the 22nd floor of a golf course across the street. It was a little walk to the strip, but a very good experience as I earned my stay at the casino and then some. I checked in using the VIP line which was very fast as a Gold.

Is there any difference as checking-in at the airport or at the hotel? Which one has better change of upgrade(?)?

Re: checking in at airport vs. hotel related to upgrade
I've read a lot of posts on a las vegas board that seem to indicate there is no difference, and what it all boils down to is the person checking you in! Back in July when I was there, the airport desk was quite helpful and there was no one else checking in... am not sure what it's like at a busy time... It was a pleasure, tho, to get check-in done and then just arrive at hotel with key in hand and go right up to the room http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
