Have been Diamond for many yrs and never failed to get upgrades, etc and bkst

Last nite had a reservation for 2 rooms at the Doubletree Tucson Reid Park. Get there and am told that they are on 2 different floors. Thinking its because they only upgraded one room, I ask which one is the upgraded and can I downgrade it. Oh- they are both 'upgraded". Then say OK - give me two on same floor - dont really care - one nite only - its (9:30pm and we will be out of there by 7:30 am. first she says we're sold out. Then she says , oh no - I have two rooms near each other on the 8th floor but those are $20 nite more. Semi - politely I say- Excuse me? ( I had spent the day moving my did into the dorm so was tired and cranky http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif She says each room will be $20 more. Me again - excuse me - does the reservation show Diamond - oh yes - buts is $20 more a nite each room. finally had to get the manager who agreed ONLY because it was a one nite stay to put us into these , obviously empty rooms. Then she tells me there is $1.10/day charge to have the phone turned on. I said don;t turn them on. she say OK. charged me $1.10 on each room anyway

Oh well - one bad experience in hundreds of stays wont keep me away, did give me bkst coupons without my asking though

A charge for turning on the phone!?!
After it's turned on they probably want to charge for toll-free numbers.
Next, they'll be charging for the key and running water.

Charging for Toll-Free already happens in Europe! Most hotels charge around $2 "connection fee" for calls to calling card services. As the systems can't discriminate between 800 calls to a calling card service and 800 calls to other places they charge you for all Toll Free!

Charging toll-free numbers is so common for a Hilton Gold member. I'm used to pay up to 3 USD at Camino Real Mexico, each call...

Hilton Richmond Airport this week charged me $1.00 + tax for a "Safe Warranty"! I couldn't believe this charge when I saw it on my bill. When I questioned the charge, the front desk asked if I had used the in-room safe during my stay (one night). Since I had not, they removed the charge. This place also charges a $3.00 energy surcharge. Gouge, gouge, gouge!
