CALGARY, Aug. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ - WestJet welcomed the announcement of the new, Open Skies-type agreement between Canada and Brazil.


"The announcement of a new Open Skies-type air agreement between Canada and Brazil will support our continued rollout of our codeshare partnerships," commented Hugh Dunleavy, WestJet Executive Vice-President, Strategy and Planning. "We support greater openness for air travel with other countries and look forward to the future benefits as a result of this agreement."

I fail to see how WS will take advantage of open skies between Brasil and Canada. Until WS decides to become an intercontinental airline, the agreement between the US and Brasil is of more relevance. AC should be happy about this though.

I think the agreement means they can now codeshare on AA flights from DFW-GRU? I don't know, though.

There was nothing stopping WS from such a codeshare before this agreement. Bilaterals apply to the actual airline metal that flies between two countries. Codeshares usually don't get mentioned.

The original deal specifies the codeshares are within and to the US only.
