After making my reservation online our family spent 5-6 August at the Monterey, CA Doubletree expecting to take advantage of the Double miles and Double base points with my Amex card. When my points didn't post I called the hotel to learn that it doesn't participate in HHonors. A call to HHonors customer service confirmed that "Unlike 98% of Doubletree Hotels the Monterey property refuses to honor HHonors." After being robbed for nearly 8,000 points and 1,000 miles the CSR added salt to the wound when she admonished me for not checking beforehand! The CSR said that there was nothing that she could do. Had I known of this ripoff I would have stayed at the Monterey Hilton about two miles away. I can't imagine this happening at a Starwood property.

You bet your Ascot it is happening at Starwood as well. See Starwood Lurker's thread An Addition to the Non-Participating Properties List (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum74/HTML/001984.html).

Also, FWIW, it has been reported in this Forum just a couple weeks ago that Doubletree Monterey Does NOT Particiapte in HHonors (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum57/HTML/002276.html). Some people reported though that they were "able to get the points posted to their account with a quick phone call to HHonors customer service". You may want to try calling them again and find a helpful CSR, or e-mail to flyertalk@hilton.com (see this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum57/HTML/002442.html)). Good luck!
