EL AL Matmid - R class / commercial upgrade

hi,

I have an S class ticket to HKG (saturday night), and on WL for R class.

48 hours before the flight they start to offer commercial upgrades for eligble tickets for 100 points.

what comes first ? first they approve the WL or the commercial upgrades ?
it makes sense to approve the WL first, as this will give them more revenue, but who knows....
anyone has experienced this ?

p.s.
based on the seatmaps, biz has about 20 seats free (but availability of C,I only) and economy is 80% empty.

i want to consult with the experienced travelers:
i've got R confirmed on a flight to HKG. i didnt issue the voucher yet.
according to the seat maps, F is not offered so more C seats. total of 14 C seats available (+4 more reserved for crew).

what do you think ? take my chances and try to get a commercial upgrade or just issue a voucher and get it over with ...

is there anyway to call Elal and ask how many are on the list for the commercial upgrade ?

I do 95% of my reservations directly with LY through the PL line.
I ask them all the questions I need.

I did call ElAl . they said that the chances look good, but suggested to wait a bit more, but decide before the 48 hours deadline, so if I revert my reservation to S, i will be included in the potential upgraders list.
what they do not tell me, is how many people are on that list. if there are 10 people i wont take my chances, and get a voucher...

now, stratigic-wise - looking at the economy seatmap, you can figure out that there are GL/PL on the flight... as you can see the preferred seats taken (22c, exit row etc). so based on this i can guess at least 6 GL/PL . but i dont know if they hold S ticket...

How is it that I can book an upgradeable ticket in coach to first/business class? I have checked to see if the class is available and it is. I guess my main question is how do I get to choose the class of ticket S, Y, M so forth.... and where do I do it? I am using US Airways as my primary. thanks.

i had confirmed R. canceled it one day before the flight back to S class (as i saw a lot of seats available on biz).
got upgraded at the airport.

then on the way back, got a text msg from elal about the upgrade 2 days before, and at the airport got a preferred seat at 1st class.

very sweet 2/2 TLV-HKG is much beter than 4/4 TLV-VIE

too bad for me that my next flights are not in S and no chance for a upgrade

I Have Z to LAX on the 2/10 and back on the 6/10
maybe they will push me to F because over booking...I pray to God
