Hilton Hotels

Dear ,

I am writing to express my disappointment with Doubletree Park Place in Minneapolis. As a Hilton HHonors Gold member I have always been extremely happy with all the properties in the Hilton Family. However, this hotel is a disgrace to the Hilton family. I recommended this hotel to my mother-in-law and sister-in-law knowing that we would be spending in excess of two thousand dollars between us.

The problems began when my sister-in-law and mother-in-law made their reservations. Despite the fact the AAA rate was available for the first three nights of their stay they were told that they could not combine this rate with a more expensive rate that was in place for the last several nights of their stay. I have never heard of such a ludicrous policy. Then, our flight was delayed and we called the hotel and asked that a message be left for my sister-in-law who would be arriving soon. This message was never given to her so she waited several hours for us to arrive.

When we arrived the front desk clerk checked us into a room with two double beds. I informed the clerk that we had reserved a non-smoking room with a king-size bed. The clerk promptly sent us up to a beautiful smoking room that reeked of smoke. Due to my asthma this was not acceptable. We requested a similar room and were put in the one of the tiniest rooms I have ever seen. I called and asked if there were any rooms that were slightly larger. We were then, placed in a one bed room suite that had a large water stain on the ceiling and pieces of paneling missing from the bottom of the bathroom door. The entire corridor outside the room smelled like body odor. However, at this point we gave up and decided to stay in this room. Our experience was not an isolated incident as my sister-in-law was placed in a room with a king size bed despite having a reservation for a room with a double bed and my mother-in-law found a pair of woman’s underwear under their bedspread. The maids never even replenished the soap or shampoo in our room. Then, the last night we did not have any hot water in our room. We called for maintenance and were informed that at 10:30 every night timer shut off the hot water. About thirty minutes later we were told it was fixed but five minutes later the hot water ran out again. Unbelievably these issues were just the most glaring examples of the problems we encountered throughout our stay as our stay was riddled with problems.

We were very disappointed and will not be returning to this Doubletree and are questioning our decision to stay at the Hilton properties that we have reserved for the rest of the summer. This experience had made us question the entire Hilton chain.

Sincerely,

Patrick Higgins

Patrick,

Sorry to hear about your troubles, and I can not offer much help in terms of who to contact.

My own MSP experience surprised me by excellent experiences at the Bloomington Doubletree, yet pretty pitiful service/accomodations at the nearby Hilton. (Embassy Suites were okay.) I stay at the Dbletree (Bloomington) whenever I pass thru MSP.

I had a problem at a Hilton hotel earlier this year. I called HHonors to see who to contact. They told me to send the letter to:

Mr. Stephen Bollenbach
CEO, Hilton Hotels International
755 Crossover Lane
Memphis, TN 38117

I told them I really didn't need to send a letter to him, just someone at Corporate. They said all inquiries sent to him are taken care of by the CSR's. So, I sent the letter to him and also cc'd the hotel manager and the front desk manager at the hotel.

To date, I have received two phone calls from the hotel property and one letter of apology. Corporate has yet to respond. I think just letting the hotel know that the letter was sent to coporate gets the point across. The hotel did tell me the problem (a person) had been taken care of and was no longer in that position (I'm glad she wasn't fired). They did offer to make it worth my while the next time I stayed at their hotel. I've no plans to get back that way. All in all, I'm OK with the way things were handled.

If you call HHonors, they will give you the names of all the managers at the property. It's best to address them by name, not just title.

Had multiple unpleasant experiences at the Hilton Minneapolis North. During my last stay (Feb 2001), bottled water (mineral and sparkling) was not offered neither by room service, nor by the hotel restaurant. The only recommendation I got from the room service desk was to use the vending machines for non-alcoholic beverages... Not to mention the numerous delays re HHonors points postings -- they process the HHonors# and FF# manually and it took, on average, two emails to HHonors and 2 months to have the points posted. Last time I complained over the phone about this property, was transferred to the Hotel Manager. He apologized and offered me a free-night voucher valid towards a future stay at that hotel -- useless, but nice gesture.

p.s. Almost forgot this one: last time, in Feb, they must have been running a st. valentine's promo -- free premium movie and hard-core pornographic channels on TV. Although, not advertised, the channel down choice on the remote (from the Hilton splash screen) was automatically switching to one of the unsensored choices. Outside, the temp was -20oF with windshield...

Yhanks for the help, I emailed a copy of the letter to adam burke as was suggested in other threads. I didn't hear back from him so, I sent the letter to the CEO. Hoepfully, they will get that hotel straigtened out. Until then AVOID it.

Also, This hotel does not offer Concierge Lounge access on Friday night, Saturday, Sunday or Monday morning. If you ask they will give you a coupon for a free drink per night and free breakfast but, only if you ask.

Well, I got a Canned" letter back from Hilton's corporate office that did not address any of the problems. Obviously, they don't care much. AVOID THIS HOTEL..
