DiningBuzz! - Why Would I Go to Dunkin’ Donuts for a Chicken Biscuit?!?

Some time ago, I signed up for Dunkin' Perks® Rewards (https://www.dunkindonuts.com/content/dunkindonuts/en/createprofilesimple.html?cid=4013150&jid=41749901&mc=XX&eid=3349601&cmpid=email_ext_000250), which is the customer loyalty program of Dunkin’ Donuts.

I have found the program useless, as they offer little incentive to participate in the program or to even patronize Dunkin’ Donuts at all — at least for me.

However, I keep getting e-mail advertisements for strange new items — the latest one being a chicken biscuit. Dunkin’ Donuts is not exactly the first thing on my mind if I were to think of a chicken biscuit — nor, for that matter, a tuna melt sandwich, hash browns or a chicken salad sandwich, amongst many other offerings that do not seem to make sense for a company whose core business is doughnuts.

Look at their menu for yourself (http://www.dunkindonuts.com/content/dunkindonuts/en/menu.html). Do you say, “Hey! Let’s go to Dunkin’ Donuts for lunch!”

Am I missing something here?!?

This is the only way the chicken biscuit can get to the other side of the road.

Depends if you are in New Jersey or not.

From ABC News (http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=14210710) and quite a few others yesterday:

Police say there was more on the menu than Munchkins and lattes during the late shift at a Dunkin' Donuts in northern New Jersey.

A 29-year-old female is facing prostitution charges after police say she took breaks to provide sex in exchange for money.

Rockaway Township police launched an investigation known as "extra sugar" after getting a tip about the workers activities at the shop.

Another story that is useless without pictures! I like the suggestion that the operation should have been named 'Donut Ho'.

As for Dunkin Donuts offering chicken biscuits, why not. I would buy a doughnut and a biscuit sandwich in the morning.

This thread went OT in a hurry. I'm guessing that you are getting coupons for strange items because those are the items that DD is trying to promote as a way to expand their business.

It might be good. One of hubby's favorite breakfast items is a Sausage Biscuit from ChikFilA.

I wouldn't go to Dunkin Donuts for a chicken biscuit, but would try their tuna melt. Why the difference? There's a Dunkin Donuts near work, so I might try it as a different lunch meal, because the same things get boring after a while.

I thought about that when I posted it, but decided for my own sanity that I really didn't want to find a picture from the mugshot of alleged whore who worked the overnight shift at Dunkin servicing people in their cars. I figured that image would be much better off left to people's imaginations. Besides, somebody may frequent the place and recognize her as the woman who has touched hid doughnuts every day for the last year as he picked up a dozen to bring home every day.

Unless you fancy some of the most vile coffee on the planet and stale doughnuts, why would you set foot in a Dunkins for any reason?

Not being from the Northeast, I cannot comprehend the love Yankees have for this fetid pit.

Most certainly I do, although not from Krispy Kreme, as they also have stale doughnuts and coffee that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy.

Oh, gross. Whoever even heard of a chicken biscuit until some overly imaginative newfangled trendy smartalecky menu creator started a trend with the combination a few years ago?

Breakfast biscuits are served with sausage and eggs or sausage and gravy. Nobody, and I mean nobody (all right, that seems to mean everybody these days) serves chicken for breakfast.

Chicken for breakfast--and on a biscuit at that, not to the side--is an unholy combination and is not meant to be.

Whatever is happening to the world? To the current generation?

...but at a doughnut shop?!?

With its current trend of adding odd items to its menu, I would not be the least bit surprised if one day someone posts about Dunkin’ Donuts in this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/diningbuzz/1215725-where-worst-steakhouses-world.html)...

A supposed interview with somebody from the doughnut shop explaining why they have it

http://charleston.thedigitel.com/features/dunkin-chicken-biscuit-21659-0608

didn't know it was a fried chicken thing, that sounds pretty horrible for breakfast. Then again, grilled might not be much better.

I'm guessing it's because the items are high profit, have low labor requirements, and increases use of existing equipment. All of the sandwiches from Dunkin' Donuts are heat and serve. Open package, nuke it in the microwave, and bag it.

In New England, Dunkin' Donuts is almost like a religion. The drive-thru lines on weekends are insane.

This item sounds terrible, but chicken is getting to be a very popular breakfast item. Many restaurants have chicken and waffles now.

You have never been to Brown Sugar Kitchen in Oakland. It is a mostly overrated underperforming combo (or each individually) at most places, but this is another level of food. You can even choose from their eclectic wine selection for your breakfast or lunch with this meal (should you choose).

I kid you not.

Chicken for breakfast? Oh, the horror!

I LOVE Chick-fil-a for breakfast. It's different than your standard fast food places, the employees are happy, and it's better than standard fast food. Chicken for breakfast is great! :)

Dunkin' has great coffee, IMO.
This will be debatable since coffee is a preferred taste. To me, Dunkin coffee is worth the trip alone.

That's what I go there for.

I typically don't do their food, but they do have a fairly healthy Egg white veggie flatbread. If they had some fresh fruit and yogurt to go with it, it would be a main stop for me in the mornings.

And if you are in a pinch for a croissant on Sunday with your paper, their croissants are decent enough.

Off-topic again... Mr. Kipper enjoyed their $18 chicken pot pie a few months ago, although he insists it wasn't quite as good as mine, but it sure made up for it in quantity (the crust was the size of a woman's hat that you'd see at the Kentucky Derby). :)

I heart DD but I think Canarsie got the email about the chicken biscuit being based in Georgia. I get those DD emails but haven't seen anything about a chicken menu item. I recall McDonalds in Tennessee sold a chicken biscuit but I can't find those in New York. I used to enjoy Chik-fil-A breakfast as well but that is really difficult to get up here. I liked chicken-based breakfast items as an option since I don't eat a lot of the sausage and bacon stuff. Hardly any of the fast food chains up here offer any chicken options. I would try DD's chicken biscuit. I buy the egg white veggie flatbread all the time and would appreciate another choice (if it was tasty!).

After I have a Caesar salad, garlic knots and shrimp fra diavolo with linguine for dinner at a Chinese restaurant, I probably should go buy doughnuts for dessert at Burger King — if they offered them...

...and then I will go watch a night of prime time comedy programming on The Weather Channel, followed by crime drama television programs on The Food Network...

I don't eat donuts from anywhere, they just don't do anything for me. But the bagels at Dunkin Donuts aren't bad. And toasted with tuna salad or chicken salad on them, they make for a fast lunch. I'll be getting more tuna sandwiches soon with the season of great lent coming up.

I wouldn't go anywhere for a chicken biscuit. But I do like that they are expanding the menu. The food choices are better (and much much less pretentious) than Starbucks, so if I want coffee and a breakfast or lunch, I'll pick Dunkin.

Like my thread "Grabbing Java on the Road", or even "Grab-N-Go Breakfast" most have a different opinion on coffee and of coffee shop food. It's really a personal taste.

When I lived in the Northeast, I really did not drink coffee, so I never went to DD. Now that I do drink coffee, I happen to like their coffee, and when I am in range of a DD while traveling, I will stop, grab a coffee and have done their flatbread Turkey for Bfast. Maybe not the healthiest Bfast, but better than nothing in a pinch.

I'd never do Chicken and Biscuit - regardless of where it came from. I just don't eat like that. Mostly try to eat lean and healthy. Mostly.

But I'd not classify DD as feted. Many of the shops are super clean, have healthy alternatives, and comfortable sitting areas with LCD television and free WiFi. They are trying to be on par with Starbucks.

The flatbread turkey sausage breakfast sandwich is pretty healthy. When I need to pick up breakfast, I'll either go for that or their turkey sausage wake-up wrap, if I'm stopping at a Dunkin' Donuts.
