We'll be arriving in Emeryville on AMTRAK's California Zephyr in the late afternoon. Rather then going into San Francisco we're planning on staying in Emeryville that night and would like to take BART to SFO the next morning.
Looking at the BART map, there doesn't seem to be an Emeryville or AMTRAK stop. Does anyone know which is the closest station?
Thanks in advance.

"BART is the regional heavy rail service which will connect you to San Francisco, Oakland, and other cities in the Bay Area. Sadly, there is no BART station in Emeryville, but simply get off BART at the MacArthur station in Oakland and take the free Emery-Go-Round shuttle. Warning: MacArthur is not recommended at night due to high danger of violent crime. "

MacArthur BART. There's an "Emery-Go-Round" free shuttle that goes around Emeryville to the BART station. I have no details re: routing/hours, but it should go close to wherever you are staying. Also, check to see if your hotel has a courtesy van that will take you to BART.
ps - if you need to take a Taxi, they don't just roam the streets of Emeryville, so plan a few extra minutes for your hotel to fetch you one.

Thanks everyone.
Another question, about how long will it take via BART to get from whichever Eastside location I'm nearest to to SFO? Will there be transfers involved?

Here's the BART site you can put in hypothetical times and such - but generally you would be in the city within a half hour.

Of course, the city isn't SFO. Without looking at the BART site, my guess would be to add another 30-40 minutes from the city to SFO.

1) Emeryville is no place to stay even for one night unless you are possibly staying with friends you know.
20 Are you trying to go from Emeryville directly to SFO? OR with San Francisco itself in between?

I disagree. If you are getting off a train, and want to stay at the Four Points, Courtyard, go see a movie, have a bite to eat, walk around the mall, and save $ not paying for an SF hotel, what is the big deal?

I agree. Also, If you are a Hilton Honors member, there is a Hilton Garden Inn that has a Emerygoround stop in front and a Doubletree Berkeley Marina with a free shuttle to BART. They may also pick you up at the Amtrack station. Both have rooms with great views facing San Francisco and the Bay.
There is plenty to do in Emeryville within walking distance from hotels - Bay Street (outdoor mall) http://www.baystreetemeryville.com/ Movie theaters, PF Changs, Apple store, IKEA, etc...

didn't realize Emeryville had so much going on.
I'm not a fan of malls or big multiplex movie houses, so it isn't my cup of tea but there's more there for tourists coming in on the train so thanks for the info.

It is a small open air mall (Bay St.) No major department stores, but many of the national-type stores, such as Banana Republic, etc. and a fair number of affordable dining options. There's also a sort-of strip mall place across the street from there with a Trader Joe's where you can pick up some food / wine / spirits if the hotel bar is (and will be) dead or closed :D

Hyatt has a rebranded Summerfield Suites property in Emeryville, now, too. Imagine I'll be doing some stays there this winter to cap off my 25 stays for the year. Haven't made it there yet.

If you're spending the night in Emeryville, I'd suggest taking a taxi (arranged through your hotel) across the bridge, so long as you're not doing this during commute hours. [Actually, if there are two of you plus the driver, then you can take the carpool lanes, so that would work even during commute hours.] You're so close to the Bay Bridge in Emeryville -- you can see the bridge and SF. Yes, you can take the Emery-Go-Round to MacArthur station, etc., but that would add 30-45 min. to your journey, and with very little savings compared to the cab ride.
I love BART, but in your situation, I don't think it's a good option.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "taking a taxi across the bridge".
Are you suggesting a taxi across the bridge to a BART station or a taxi across the bridge to SFO?

Whoops. I'm sorry -- I misread your original post. I thought you were simply going to downtown SF. I see now that you're going to SFO the next morning.
This is a closer call. The standard BART fare (assuming you're not a senior or disabled) from MacArthur to SFO is $8.45. Supershuttle would be $41 plus tip. With two people and luggage, I'd opt for the Supershuttle.

The other option is to go straight to SFO and spend the night there. Granted, there's less to do there than in Emeryville, but you might get more shuteye. When does your flight depart?
