Los Angeles - Drive time Westwood to Oxnard

We will be staying in Westwood, near UCLA, for several days and will be taking a 9:30 a.m. boat tour from Oxnard Marina to Anacapa. How early would we likely need to leave Westwood on a weekday morning to be at the marina by 8:30 a.m.? Gauging by Google Maps, I'd guess no later than 7 a.m. (thinking we'd take Pacific Coast Highway to avoid traffic on the 405 and 101, assuming morning traffic on the PCH would be mainly softbound). Alternative is to leave the afternoon before, requiriing a change of hotel for one night (saw a Hampton Inn almost next to the Oxnard Marina).
Thanks!

Generally it takes about an hour to do oxnard-westwood so an hour and a half should be prudent IF there are no major accidents (6:45 would be ever safer). Of course the most stress free way would be to come up the day before.

I've done Santa Monica to Oxnard (Channel Islands Harbor) many times on the weekends, when there isn't much traffic early in the morning (leave around 6:30am to be there by 8am). I've timed myself (knowing the route pretty well) and haven't ever been able to make it in under about 50 minutes. I'd say you can add an extra 15-20 minutes from Westwood because of lights and stuff if you want to do local.
Thanks! Do you think PCH is the best route? We may take a different route back the following afternoon.

While I think the view along PCH is better, 101 and 405 may be faster if there's no traffic. I don't know much about traffic at those times because I'm usually asleep. :)

In the morning 405/101 is better from westwood - there may be a bit of traffic up sepulveda pass and perhaps near 23 in thousand oaks but 1.5-2 hrs should be enough (since you already give yourself an hour before boat departure). BTW I believe it's not called Oxnard marina but Channel Islands Harbor and Marina.
While there have a snack at Fisherman House sushi or a homestyle japanese restaurant in the same court - great and inexpensive places we frequent.

Google Maps is your friend. After you get directions, click on "Traffic" and select the day of the week and the time of day you will be departing, and Google will compute the average traffic delay.

I'm familiar with Google Maps and used them for this, but I also know that its accurateness can vary widely by day and over time (they don't pretend to recalculate times on a regular basis), so was asking for real-world experiences. While, in general, Google Maps seems to actually be pretty generous on times, I've also found cases where it simply isn't accurate due to traffic and other factors (especially traffic). Which is to be expected. Cheers.

If you have a smartphone, I find Google maps to be EXTREMELY eerily accurate with time estimates on my iPhone. Better than the web version.

Yep!
1-hour if not during rush hour times!
With rush hour? 1.5-2 hours.

Again, last post was in August of 2011, why are you going around bumping old threads?
