No recent info in the BA thread, but has anyone stayed in the Axel Hotel in BA?
Heading down in February so I'm in no rush to book, but theres a $98 rate.
Any guidance appreciated.
Thanks!

Unless you are looking to meet new gay friends at your hotel, there's not much of a reason to stay at the Axel. It's in a grungy area (tourist trap / hostel / backpacker), disguised as "bohemian" in the guides. Better off staying in the nicer / more hip areas.

If you are staying for 4+ nights, I would recommend looking into a week-long apartment rental.

I agree with izzik. Axel is located in a really boring part of town. Nothing to do at night around there except for the occasional parties at Palacio Alsina, but it is easy enough to cab it there from Palermo or Recoleta.

Its an overpriced hotel, stay at the Sheraton or Marriott, etc or in Recoleta at the Melia. The Sheraton will give you buy 3 get one free etc, that is for 3 4 or 5 nights.

I can highly recommend the Sofitel in Buenos Aires, best stay I had a in a long time.

WE stayed at Axel (Which was fine) but ended up going to other parts of town most of the time.

We stayed in a place I think it was called five cool rooms in palermo.... that was nice and in a cool area.

While the interior of the Axel is quite nice (if you like modern design and concrete) it was quite noisy. The music at the pool area was just annoying.

I do agree with the others to look for apartments or hotels in Palermo.

Thanks all. Will be traveling solo and staying 3 nights in EZE. Looks like I'll just keep my eyes peeled for deals in the next few months.

We staid in the Axel first time 3 years ago and came back for Easter this year. While I love the concept, it has not aged well. Our room had mould on the walls and in the bath room, the pool felt neglected and the steam room and sauna were so smelly and mouldy that I wouldn't go in there.
As a minor point, the breakfast is also horrible these days.
I would join the posters suggesting that you stay in Palermo instead.

Adam, for 3 nights I would recommend the Sheraton as you may get the buy 2 nights and the 3rd is free. Let me know if you need more details.
