SkyTeam - US-MAD in C: DL 767-300 or KLM 747?

Not really excited about either choice. Both require double connections, as I am on a mileage ticket and that's what's available.

I can either fly LAX-PDX-AMS-MAD with DL across the pond. (The LAX-PDX is a paid ticket on AS. Not available for award travel at this time).
OR
LAX-IAH-AMS-MAD with KLM across the pond. (The LAX-IAH would be a separate ticket on CO).

The second itin only has a 2 hour AMS layover as opposed to a 5 hour layover.

Truth is, I'd much rather take option three or four (a nonstop on Ibera or a connection on LH). But neither is feasible right now.

So of the two choices, what would the sages recommend?

Unfortunately DL's 767-300's haven't yet been converted to fully flat sleepers - http://www.delta.com/traveling_checkin/inflight_services/products/progress.jsp

So it probably comes down more to the convenience of the flights. A two hour layover is better than 5 and AMS is an easy airport to connect in.

I'd go via IAH as well, as you'll at least get an angled flat seat, instead of a recliner. Plus, Delft blue house with KL.
