Argentina - Teatro Colon Funcion de Gala Availability and Dress Code?

My wife and I will be in Buenos Aires, and the only opera playing while we are there is on August 9th. The website says tickets don`t go on sale until the 4th, which is when we arrive, so that is not a problem per se. I was wondering how much can I expect to pay for good seats, and will I be able to get them at the box office or do they sell out to season ticket holders?
Also, the performance is indicated at ``Funcion de Gala`` and `Gran Abono`on their website, which googling indicates is a more formal or opening night type event. My wife will be bringing an evening dress, so should be covered. For myself, should I bring my tuxedo? If I wear a tuxedo, would I be overdressed? I had originally planned on only bringing a shirt and tie, but could be a sport coat or tuxedo if necessary.
Thanks for any help,
Michael

Mike Tux is not Mandatory.... availability will not be easy... are you staying at a full service hotel....? The Concierge may be a good bet...

We`re staying at the Sheraton Liberator, which probably counts as something close to full service, although I`m not sure how the concierge staff is. (Emails on the subject have gone unanswered so far for 3 days)
Are there any reliable ticket vendors, brokers or agencies we could use? In this situation, I`d be willing to pay a premium price to secure tickets, as it`s a one shot deal for us, and it`s on our bucket list of great opera houses.
Would a tuxedo be overdressed? I prefer a tux to a suit, but don`t want to look out of place.
Regards,
Michael

I agree that a tuxedo isn't necessary, and a dark-colored suit would be more appropriate. White (or very pale-colored shirt), and not-too-loud tie. Black belt and shoes.
You and your wife should avoid wearing expensive jewelery.
Basically your only choice is to buy at the Boleteria or via tuentrada.com (via the Teatro Colon site using VISA or AMEX), or as Alex suggested asking the concierge for help. Don't be discouraged about not receiving an answer to your email, in my experience this is fairly common, and service will be much better in person at the hotel.
If you go to the Teatro Colon web site, and follow the booking option for an opera currently on sale (Simon Boccanegra), you can see the seating options and differences in prices. I would expect to pay at least US$150 or more for a decent seat (Platea/Palco with good sight-lines) on opening night.

Call the Sheraton and kick some rear end for them not getting back to you.
Tuxedo for a Gala will not be out of line, but you will be in the minority....

The tickets for Pelléas et Mélisande are now on sale. There is good availability for the Gran Abono on August 9.
The best/most expensive seats (Palco Bajo/Balcon Centro, Platea Fila 1 a 14, Entr. P. Bajo/Balcon Centro) are ARS$600.

I am happy to report we were able to secure excellent seats, as mentioned the price was 600 pesos pp. Gaucho, if you go look out for us and say hello. We will be the ones not speaking Spanish, black tuxedo and black dress, sitting in the palco balcon centro.
Thank you all for the help!
