Just Curious. Here's my list:

1. Domke Protective Wraps - love these things
2. Manfrotto Tripod - Its big, its heavy but I don't leave home without it
3. Small cheapo Tripod - Gets the job done when my shoulder hurts from the Manfrotto
4. Shutter Remote/Release

*Used to bring a few Wolvering HDs with card reader for Backup but I take my laptop now.

Im always lugging around my DSLR everywhere I go and these have all helped me to get great shots.

Happy Photo-ing

I tend to pack everything. I can get two bodies and 6 lenses in my bag, plus all the accessories, so I take it all just in case. Plus a tripod in it's own case.

That's for long-distance travel. If I'll just be out for the day, it's typically 10-22, 24-105, and 70-200 or 100-400 depending on what I'm shooting, plus tripod or monopod, extra batteries, CF cards, rocketblower, remote release (out of habit). I think that's the minimum kit.

I daily carry the body and 5 lenses in a small bag, and the Benro travel angel will fit in there too. Polarizers, spare batteries, cards, etc.

But to the point of the thread, I would say iPad

Over a year ago I purchased a spider holster to get my d700 off my shoulder and onto my hip. When walking the streets of a big city or hiking mountain trails or any event, it frees up my hands and saves my back. Truly a great plus in my gear ^^

A good backpack is a key. I only carry the full complement of 6 to 7 from home to destination hotel, then take the 3 lenses listed on day trips from the hotel. With one lens on the body and two others, it's not really that heavy - only one is a long tele. 10-100mm or so lenses aren't that heavy. But a good backpack with waist/chest straps is important.

It's why I chose micro four thirds instead of the larger/heavier formats

^ I usually tote the camera around with a large Northface hipsack. You can always sling it across your shoulders too

My Gorillapod! That thing has enabled me to get so many great shots (with me in them!). Otherwise it's just scenery, shots of my wife, scenery, etc. It's nice to be in some of the pictures.

Always wanted to try one, just never pulled the trigger to buy one. They have great reviews on amazon

I was thinking the same thing.

I only ever bring a Canon superzoom and a tiny compact camera as a backup. I'll also lug along the underwater case for the compact if we'll be spending time in or above water.

My last DSLR years ago just gathered dust since I usually opted to take a compact with video capability.

I would love to get a new DSLR, but it seems like the video capturing of DSLR cameras are still a bit cumbersome when it comes to focusing and zooming.

You should check out the new mirror less cameras. dSLR sensors and image quality, smaller size, and better video. They are made for people exactly with your interest.

My vote is for the micro four thirds cameras (Panasonic and Olympus) due to their MUCH better native lens lineup, but the Sony NEX and Samsung varieties are good cameras too. Just about any lens ever made can be adapted to any of these bodies due to their short flange-back distance.

On my last trip I had

D90
18-55
28-200
50 prime
polarizer
memory cards

I think I had my SB-600 in my carry on bag but I can't remember if I brought it with me or not. Except for the flash I pretty much have the above listed stuff everywhere I take my camera. It barely all fits in my bag now so I think it's time to go bag shipping again.

Yes the focusing is a bit annoying. I lug around a 7D and the quality of the video is just amazing to me.

I never go on a trip without my camera harness. Much more comfortable than a plain old neck strap.

I keep a home made camera poncho (http://www.willcad.org/image_cameraponcho.shtml) in my pocket whenever I'm out and about with my SLR.

I never go anywhere, camera or not, without at least one or two flashlights. I carry a small but powerful light in my pocket, and I keep one of these bright but cheap LED lights (http://www.dealextreme.com/p/black-flashlight-keychain-22000mcd-10-pack-1253) on my keychain, and several in my camera bag, at all times. They won't illuminate most subjects, but they work for light writing and are unbelievably useful for seeing your gear in low light.

I also like to keep a few disposable hand wipes (http://www.healthpricer.com/antibacterial-thick-moist-wipes-48sh-details/11164908.html) in my camera bag, to keep dirty hands from transferring lunch residue or any other undesirable messes onto my gear.

Do you trust the gorilla pod with a DSLR? I considered one a few years ago and thought it seemed to risky. Now, I am thinking about taking a D7000 (lighter than the D700) with a built in remote shutter release and a small prime lens (50mm, f/1.8) on trips that are not primarily for photography.

Which gorilla pod do you use?

I don't have a Gorillapod yet; I've been looking at them in REI and online to decide which model I want (I'll be buying one sometime soon). They have several models large enough to handle big, heavy SLRs and lenses. Looking on B&H's web site, the Gorillapod SLR Zoom is rated for camera/lens combos up to 6.6lbs/3kg. The optional ballhead is rated the same.

The Gorillapod Focus is designed for camcorders, and can support a whopping 11lbs/5kg.

NOTE: B&H seems to have Gorillapod products at lower prices than buying direct from Joby. Last time I priced the Gorillapod SLR Zoom / Ballhead combo at Joby, it was $80, but B&H has it for only $48.63.

Although i have a Canon DSLR and a bag full of lenses, as long as I've got my Canon S95 on me, I'm a happy camper. I almost feel naked without it.

Okay, I ordered a Gorillapod SLR Zoom with ballhead from B&H this morning. Should be here in about 2 days.

SeAAttle, I owe you for the motivation to buy; I tried to go to Joby's web site this morning to get the weight ratings in answer to your question, but the site was down, so I went to B&H's site instead and discovered their much lower price on something I wanted to buy anyway, so I bought it. Thanks!

Joby's site is back up now:

I will look forward to hearing more from you about the Gorillapod. If I am traveling primarily for photography, I don't mind lugging gear (see my post on the Tenba rollaboard) but often, I just want something light that I can use as needed. I have tried a P&S, but it just doesn't perform as well as I would like.

Aside from the usual (camera+lens+cards(CF/SD))

I am cheap on acessories, don't care much on the brand so here goes:

Glad Trash bag + rubber bands (weather proofing)
might update to an Aqua Tech Sport Shield cap somedays.

Tripod (benro travel angel) (in checked luggage so don't feel like getting a Gitzo)

small LED Flashlights
