Choice Privileges - Double Points on Choice Visa 8/1-9/30 (Targeted?)

Just received via email (emphasis mine):

Your Choice Privileges® Visa® Card has never been so rewarding. Every $1 you spend over $300 in each month on all non-Choice Hotels purchases between August 1, 2011 and September 30, 2011 will earn double points.¹

I'm not sure if the 8,000 point per month cap is bonus points or total points. If total, it basically means spending $2150/month earns 8000 points, or 3.72 points/$. $1000/month earns 3400 points, or 3.4 points/$. Not a bad deal.

Taking another gander, I think the 8,000 per month is bonus points, not regular points earned, as there is no cap on that number in the card's Terms and Conditions.

My Choice Visa, which I got in April 2011, gives me double points all the time everywhere I shop. I thought this was the norm with this card.

I get 2 points/$ as well, but the email says 'double points'. Since I have not received any notice that the rewards are being cut to 1 point/$, I'm assuming this means that 4 points/$ are being given in August and September (after spending $300, as the email notes).

If you get 4 points per dollar, that's very nice. I did not receive this email.
