New England - Gas prices in Maine vs New Brunswick

Thanks to so many of you for your Maine driving advice.

As I'm going along highway 9 in Maine towards Calais, should I gas up on the US side ... or are prices more reasonable in Canada?

Also, I'll have a cooler with beer in my car. Will the Canadian officials have a problem with that?

Do any of you have experience crossing over at Calais?

Finally, is there some US radio (AM) station that I can pick up in NB and NS for news?

Thanks.

If I'm doing my math right, you'd do MUCH better on the US side.

According to newbrunswickgasprices.com, several prices in Saint Stephen are listed as "127.9", which I assume equates to C$1.279/liter. Converting to US$ and gallons, I believe this comes out to $5+ per gallon. So I would get gas in Calais before you cross.

I'm hard-pressed to think of a single place where it would be cheaper to buy gas on the Canadian side of the border. Mostly it's not even close. It used to be common for Canadians to cross the border just to buy gas, but of course in this brave new ultra-secure world we live in, it's no longer worth the hassle a lot of times.

Our only experience with NB was driving to Campobello and we filled up in Lubec. We drive more often to Quebec from NYS and gasoline is WAY cheaper in the NYS side than in PQ.

Hey, John, taking a break from Ireland? :) Have a great time in Canada. Report back when you get home. We'd love to hear about your trip.
