Are there any bank branches or facilities for making deposits in Sydney Airport domestic or international, or within walking distance of either? Ideally I'm looking for a Commonwealth Bank.

Currently there are no accessible CBA facilities at the aiport, so nearest branch is Mascot..

I think the only onsite option is ANZ who have a branch in the international terminal (airside)

Thanks. Do you know if it is possible to deposit into a CBA account from ANZ?

Thanks. Do you know if it is possible to deposit into a CBA account from ANZ? It is possible, but they will charge to do it, and it won't go in straight away (generally overnight if done by cut-off time, depends on the bank and the branch as to when that is).

If you are worried aboutcarrying around a large sum of cash, you could convert it into something safer such as travellers cheques or a stored value card at any of the currency exchange places.

Thanks.

I want to buy some car parts from a shop in Australia and have them sent to me in NZ but they have stopped accepting international credit cards. Last time I did an international transfer into their account they had trouble tracking it because their bank took a cut and didn't use my description etc and it took a month to figure it out.

My plan this time was to draw out cash from an ATM with my NZ card, then put it into their account while I'm transitting in SYD.

Another question - are there likely to be CBA or ANZ ATMs at the airport, or does Travellex have the monopoly? I should've kept my eyes open when I was there a week ago!

There are ANZ ATMs at both SYD and MEL airports (maybe exclusively; don't remember seeing any other banks, only Travelex and Amex).

According to the CBA website, there are no CBA ATM's at SYD airport. Nearest is at Mascot branch.

As someone who works for a bank, if you cannot make it to a CBA branch in Oz, my recommendations, in order, are:

1. Internet banking transfer before you leave (it should take approx. 24 hours) - approx. cost AU$20

2. Telegraphic transfer before you leave - if you're bank doesn't use the reference you ask them to, maybe you should change banks! With access to the internet and cheap international phone calls, it's not hard to find out the inward and outward T/T fees - approx. AU$ 35 and $15. Note that the quickest transfer method in Australia is T/T and it is actually more expensive to do from Australia than it is from NZ, as Aus banks charge higher fees for this service if you are not a customer than if you are.

I'd use OzForex to do that. You'll get a much better exchange rate than the banks and the money will be in the account within 48 hours.

I will look into this. I'm not sure if what I did last time was internet banking or TT but it turned into a nightmare. I think it was $NZ20, then when they couldn't find it, I had to pay another $NZ35 for my bank to launch an investigation which determined CBA had taken $7 out even though the guy who I was sending the money to assured me they do it all the time and always get the exact amount sent. Luckily I was at Cairns airport when the results came through so I posted a birthday card with $10 cash in it to cover the $7 I owed :D

My NZ bank is a CBA subsidiary

If you use HSBC you can transfer money between countries at no cost other then about a 1/2 cent charge on the exchange rate.

If you use HSBC you can transfer money between countries at no cost other then about a 1/2 cent charge on the exchange rate.Sadly this isn't true for HSBC in most countries; you'd think the fees and exchange premium would be the same world-wide for the same company, but in some markets HSBC charges 400% more than that! In my experience HSBC is no better or worse than most other banks, and all cost more than using a specialized foreign exchange service (such as Ozforex suggested earlier in this thread). It all depends on the countries involved.
