What chances of a suite upgrade do I have as a diamond? Any info will be appreciated. Absik001 Nov 30, 03, 7:01 am Hi all, I'll be staying there... anyone would like to have a beer with me ? Grog Mar 30, 05, 2:41 pm To provide an update on the Hilton Antwerp, here's a quick report from the 5th floor. Very nice hotel. Very central, on the Groenplaats. It's an historic building, but the hotel itself is very modern and very comfortable. Literally connected to a large shopping complex by its side-door entrance, you can get some good shopping in without having to fight the rain (like we did today). Asked the front desk about checking-in at the lounge. That's when we discovered that, for whatever reason, they did not show me as Gold. A quick show of the card and a reconfirmation on-screen and we were immediately upgraded to Club level, 5th floor. Very comfortable lounge, very well kept. Reminiscent of Hilton Malta's lounge--spacious and long, covering the equivalent space of about 6 executive rooms. When we arrived in the afternoon, the lounge was stocked with sweets, coffees, teas, and water. In the evening, we saw Crιmant d'Alsace make an appearance, also various fresh cheeses, salami, sausages, chicken snacks. Good selection of spirits. A number of varieties of Belgian beer. Executive room with sitting corner, desk, in-room safe. CD player above TV as well. Complimentary water, robes, trouser press, tea/coffee, et al. Separate shower and bath. WiFi for 15 Euros/day (512 kbps up/down), buy-p possible if needed. A knock on the door offered us turndown service, which we politely turned down. ;) We were still handed tomorrow's weather and some chocolates and wished a good night. :) Bottom line: considering the 109 rate we're paying, including buffet breakfast, I almost feel guilty. We've found another excellent Hilton hotel :) mtresc Mar 31, 05, 12:52 am Bottom line: considering the 109 rate we're paying, including buffet breakfast, I almost feel guilty. We've found another excellent Hilton hotel :) Grog, where did you find a rate of EUR 109 ?? I always ended up finding rates only far above EUR 200. Thanks for your help. Grog Mar 31, 05, 2:57 am Grog, where did you find a rate of EUR 109 ?? Here's the FT thread: Hilton Easter Offer 2005 - B&B for 89, 109 and 139 (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=406285) Threy Mar 31, 05, 3:39 am While Antwerp is only a good hour drive away from my hometown, I check rates there quite frequently and normally even weekend rates drop seldomly below 145 at the Hilton, which is considered one of three best hotels in Belgium, Amigo in Brussels is certainly a strong competitor: http://www.hotelamigo.com/ Mentioning that, the Scandic in town, less desirable hotel, especially their location goes easily below 100 on weekends or 10000 HH points weeklong... Same for the Crowne Plaza, a 4* property right by the freeway, normally well below 80 on weekends and solid packages... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/6c/1/en/hpd/anrbe nollag Nov 23, 06, 7:20 am Hello all, Am planning to go with the soon to be Mrs Nollag to Antwerp for New Year (never did quite get round to buying the sparkler yet - so will do it then !) We are staying in the Hilton. Would appreciate your views, both on how good the hotel is, and what to do in the city at New Yr. Do the Hilton Antwerp typically upgrade Diamonds ? If so, does anyone have their e-mail address, as its not on hilton.com ? What's the Exec Club like ? Is it open late ? Is the gym any good ? Thanks Nollag fimo Nov 26, 06, 11:13 am As a Diamond I got the exec floor, lounge access (I believe it's open 24 hours, beer, water, and soft drinks available self-serve). Missed the breakfast, but a bottle of wine, fruit plate, mineral water, and a small box of chocolates were delivered to my room after arrival. Just checked into the Hilton Antwerp today, and confirm the same as Diamond. This is not my first stay here, but first time as Diamond. If so, what benefits did you receive? Can anyone confirm if Golds can check-in in the lounge and will likely get an exec level upgrade at weekends? Many thanks. nollag Nov 30, 06, 10:56 am This is great chaps. Does anyone have an e-mail address for the hotel, or for the exec lounge ? Thanks Nollag Email: sales_antwerp@hilton.com One of my favorite cities in Europe and one of my favorite Hiltons. Nice rooms and excellent exec lounge. My first stay at this hotel convinced me to swtich my loyalty to the HH program. nollag Jan 8, 07, 4:23 pm Quick trip report: Location was great, and good comfortable rooms. Upgrade given without a hesitation. Great city - lots to see and do Downsides: Gym was poor, and you can't bring in liquids, as they want to sell you small bottles of water for a couple of euro a pop Lounge discipline was bad: On new years eve, there was a group of 10 Americans in there shouting across the lounge at each other. After 20 minutes, they managed to clear the lounge of all other guests. No smoking signs in the Exec lounge were ignored completely. One evening there was a gang of teenage boys in there smoking away, and coughing and spluttering all over the food. wbl-mn-flyer Jan 8, 07, 11:07 pm Quick trip report: ... Thanks, It's on our radar Mrs. BR can't wait to buy "a girls best friend." :( ronamc May 8, 07, 11:44 am Just returned from a 3-day award stay at this property. The location is excellent. Service was so-so. We did not get upgraded to the executive level despite there being availability for sale on hilton.com. After prompting we were given the buffet breakfast each day in the restaurant. It was a good buffet, but not outstanding. There is a note about renovation in progress but we didn't see or hear any signs of it. Hotel was a little old fashioned, showed some wear, and had a musty smell in the hall. The mattresses aren't very comfy but the linens were nice. Big Bathroom but not well appointed so it felt like wasted space. IMPORTANT: if you are not on the executive level or in one of the business rooms/suites then in-room coffee tea service is not included which is pretty harsh if you also aren't getting into the lounge! They are happy to provide it for 25 euros per stay... We were able to successfully persuade them to comp it since this wasn't what we were expecting. On the positive side, the room was very large compared to Brussels and Amsterdam! Also, don't expect the hotel rooms to reflect the style of the front of the hotel that is shown in the photos. That is an facade that was preserved which the current hotel was built behind. Entrance to the hotel is actually on the left side of the building. If you are coming from the shops on Meier you can also cut thru the shopping center. Overall it rated about a 6 1/2 out of 10. Grog May 8, 07, 2:24 pm Thanks for the update, ronamc. We were upgraded to the exec floor on our last stay a couple months ago and we noticed a slip in service in the lounge while we were there. We'll have to take this into consideration (or at least make an advance phone call to the hotel to set the stage) before our next trip. Land-of-Miles May 9, 07, 2:11 pm My GF and I returned from the Hilton Antwerp after a paid 2 night stay yesterday. We were upgraded to an Exec Room (although a smaller rather than larger one). I would describe the service as truly awful at this hotel. Very little went well during our stay, we had no welcome letter, we had no in room amenity (fruit plates seemed to be standard in all other rooms accompanied by small vases of flowers, neither of which we received). We booked a dinner inclusive rate for the first night and the restaurant service was so poor it would have been funny if it hadn't been so annoying. Food took forever to arrive and then one of the 2 main courses arrived cold. We were staying to celebrate my GF's birthday and there was no acknowledgement of this (despite the comments in the booking) until I made the observation on the last night of our stay after seeing the welcome letters being prepared for other guests (offering free champagne for HH members when eating in the restaurant, which would have been nice to know at the time  ). The best part of our stay was dinner at the nearby "Sir Antony Van Dyck" Restaurant (strongly recommended), upon our return we could not access our room with the room keys. We had to trudge back to the main reception to get new keys only to repeat the experience. We then had to return to reception etc. etc. We did finally get into our room just before midnight (and we were departing for the airport 6 hours later) at this point we found that we had received a bottle of Leffe (rather late in the day to be opened and unable to be taken in our hand luggage for our flights) and some chocs. I got the feeling this could be a great hotel, the location is good, the rooms were OK, the lounge had promise (although I did not see any champagne, only some fairly unappealing sparkling wine, luckily I brought some Krug along myself). The biggest problem was the staff (or lack of them). The lounge appeared to be staffed only about 50% of the time and the quality of staff elsewhere left much to be desired. I stayed earlier this year and my stay could not have been better - I checked in early and although my room wasn't available I was told I had Exec Lounge access and to return later to pick up keys. When I did return I was given a very nice (newly refurbished) junior suite and chocs/wine. The room service I ordered was excellent - hot and tasty - and the lounge was comfortable and relaxed - staffing of the lounge was sporadic but attentive when present - and drinks were plentiful including real champagne I seem to recall (not sure of the brand as I stuck to belgian beer!). Lounge breakfast was also of decent quality. I would (and may well) stay again  Land-of-Miles May 12, 07, 5:31 pm That's a real shame. I have been offered a free room night for a future stay so we may well go back and try again, but I am 99.99% sure I woud not have had the experience I described above in an SPG hotel. Upon check in, the trainee desk girl told me I had a twin smoking. I asked if they had a King non-smoking available as a Diamond upgrade, the other agent came over, punched a few keys on the computer and I was given a room on the exec - 5th floor. There doesn't appear to be any access control for the lounge, the lift is not keyed and anyone can just walk in. The lounge is staffed in the morning by a very good girl, she makes sure everything is well stocked and is very attentive. At other times of the day, it doesn't seem to be staffed but 50% of the time. The fridge has some very nice Belgium beers but no glasses to go along with them. In the evening, you have to ask someone to get the proper glass for the beer you want, they go into another room and bring a few out. It doesn't seem like much but a Duvel has to be drunk from a Duvel glass and the same goes for the other brands as well. It has something to do with the way they are poured. You just can't drink these beers from the bottle. Overall, it's a nice hotel, on to the Amsterdam Hilton tomorrow. btw - The Brut currently being served in the lounge is - Cremant d'Alsace not sure if this is what you had on your trip. I haven't tried it yet. |
