Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has had any success in changing or cancelling Finnair fully restricted economy ticket?

I have bought a ticket for November, but it does turn out I'm going to do a secondment in another country for 6 months so I can't use the ticket. I could either use it now or in new year. Alternatively - any losses I can recuperate - excellent.

Alternatively - does secondment provide a sufficient claim for Travel Insurance?

Not generally.

If your ticket is for a travel date that is far from now, I'd probably wait and hope for a schedule change and try to use that for a cancellation/rescheduling and/or do the cancellation the day before scheduled date of departure on the ticket.

There are extremely good reasons why the same seat on any given flight can cost anything between X and 50X or whatever, which I'm sure you're full aware of.

When booking supersaver el cheap fares you take the risk (of throwing money away if plans change), when booking fully flexible the airline takes the risk (of flying an empty seat shall you cancel at the last minute)...that's just the name of the game.

That said, it doesn't hurt to ask..

..or hope that pilots/cabin crew/ATC/ground handling/luggage staff/cleaners/gardeners/bell boys/owners/who ever is/are on strike...odds aren't too high ;)
